Giving pilots their rear view back

Now, let me start of by saying that it isn't realistic for pilots to see whats behind them, but I do feel that it should be put back to simulate realism. In real life a jet has radar so it has a heads up when missles are launched against it as well as a jet is tailing them. At the moment, unless someone on the ground spots the jet tailing you, your only warning is a second of red around your screen before you go down in flames as they tear your jet to peices with a cannon. At least with your rear view you wouldn't be clueless to the jet that's right behind you. Also, you would be able to see where ground missles were launched from with the rear view which I feel is realistic.
It's basically a substitute because at the moment, we pilots have to basically fly blind to everything not in front of us.

technically, with many of the modern fighters bubble canopy, they can see the rear to a degree, it'll only show half or less at best with the chair and hull in the way but they can see to a limited degree. but yeah, a radar would be very nice to have.

Actually in real life, it is possible for pilots to look behind them, not just a limited side view, as zepheris said, the bubble canopy allows for this.
But it must also be known that doing this while conducting High G maneuvers is not advised, not only would it be considerably hard to do, you might injure yourself in the process.

the Mig-29 is a bit more difficult with rear view though, and SU-27 as well to a degree, F-16 probably have one of the best canopy for rear view.

Actually, I'd like to see the cockpit become optional again. In real life you obviously can't make the cockpit disappear, but you also have a much better view of the world and much better situational awareness. Allowing the cockpit to be toggled as in vanilla BF2 wouldn't drastically alter the realism or suspension of disbelief. This is the one thing that I'm -not- excited about in regards to PRMM. Everything else I've seen so far adds an exceptional tension to the gameplay. There is just enough gritty realism to really make you feel you're experiencing something similar to reality.
Keep up the good work...

Maybe change the postion of the rear view camera to the be inside the cockpit and be blocked out by the seat a bit, better than nothing though...

I meant the rear view switch where you see your jet and all behind it.

I think szarkos idea works out best, it doesnt give the complete view of your entire plane, but places that view inside the cockpit looking back.
Could also use the F keys, likein vbf2, F9 look right, F10 look left F11 look back, all within the perspective of the cockpit, i think it would work out fantastic.

I think airplanes should get rader, like UAV excpet that it doesn't see infantry. Would this be possible?

i dont fly too much in jets and i dont even use the F buttons when flying, but i think this should be implemented even if we do put radar in.

So...is the development team pretty much set on the idea that there will be no cockpit-less view?

is it possible to add instruments that change, eg. dials and radar screen and MIRRORS using the BF2 engine (not relating to your modding skill)?

If you could look behind but still having the camera inside the cockpit then it would be great. I think it's good you don't have all the different camera-views from vBf2 anymore, it feels more realistic.

Isnt it possible to make a rader like in DC for plains? Like a UAV but it only show air vehicles?

Like the dev above said "no"
Radar would be nice but, but i believe that my suggestion is a lot easier? to make/impliment.

Rhino ,
I'm glad to read that it's still open to consideration. I love to ground-pound in BF2 but I admit the main attraction for me is the air to air and air to ground combat. The helicopters especially appeal to me, but I've been wanting something closer to a relaxed-realism simulation regarding -all- of the weapons systems and combat. The limited view is something I understand, but again I don't feel that is any more realistic per-se, given the tremendous loss of situational awareness that an actual flight crew would have. It looks like we'll have plenty of ordinance aimed at us in your mod...don't take our pretty views away .
