I have tried 3 different terrain making softwares and the free versions wont make the correct sizes for a 4km map. I've tried Terragen, GeoControl and L3DT. Is there any software that is free that can make the map i need? I also cant find TPaint anywhere. I really want to get started on my map and i dont want to use the BF2 editor for the terrain.

I don't think you can make 4km maps with free terrain software. I may be wrong though. When all else fails, do it by hand.

geocontrol has a free 30 day trial and you can make 4km maps with it - It only needs to be 1024 ( or is it 1025? XD ) as you make it scale 4 in the editor

I tried a 4km map from the L3DT and it worked. BUt I had problems with the borders =/

you just have to set the combatzone manually . otherwise youre gonna die if you reach a certain distance from the mapborder

I solved it making the land near the border higher to hide the problem
