Sniper/Marksman Skin

Hey guys, I was just wondering...

There was talk in some other topics about a 'Sniper' kit and a 'Designated Marksman' kit (or something along those lines). Basically what I'm getting at is...

I don't believe that the 'Designated Marksman' (who will hopefully be carrying the SPR) should have a ghillie suit. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that being part of the squad, his role was to extend the effective range of a unit, rather than sit in a bush and snipe.

I'd like to see the 'Designated Marksman' look very similar to the other soldiers in the squad (without the ghillie suit). In actuality (according the US Sniper Manual - or something like that) the sniper dresses much like the rest of the unit that he is with. This is to prevent his silhouette from being singled out by the enemy and shot.

An example of what I'm thinking of for the 'Designated Marksman' skin are the two snipers Randy Shugard and Gary Gordon from Black Hawk Down (although they were actual Medal of Honor recipients). Watch the movie, you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about in terms of skinning.

It appeared that one of them had an M21 (or M14, I couldn't distinguish) in the movie, and one had a scoped M-4? I don't think we've implemented an M-21 yet have we? Then again, this takes place in the present, and those snipers were from the conflict in Somalia in 1993.

Regardless, the basis of this excruciatingly long post is that I basically think that if there is a differentiation between the two kits of Sniper and Designated Marksman, then the Designated Marksman should not have a ghillie suit.

Lol that's all.

lol AF, the plan is to get rid of the ghillie suit and i think it would be cool if he was dressed simmualr to the engineer or medic

does the ghillie suit even work? at all? in the game? i mean with the fact that shrubs and bushes and stuff dissapear (i HATE that! why should a bush be in your line of sight and someone far off cant see nothing!) the ghillie suit is so useless.

the ONLY time the ghillie suit was useful was the first week of BF2 when no one was used to it.

Yea. This is what ive been dying for for so long. Replace the sniper and his ghille suit with a marksman in some BDU's and a bush hat.

US Marine Designated Marksman with an M14. THAT is what I personaly would like to see instead of a Sniper, becasue these are fielded more than snipers, making it a more realsitic choice.

M14. Used alot by special operations soldiers becasue its a battle battle rifle at heart, like an M16, but has a much larger round (7.62mm) and better accuracy so makes for a good marksman weapon.

nice touch. If there's still to be a sniper option, is there any way to make the gillie suit blend in better with the colour of vegetation on BF2?? Even if you go prone and stay static, it aint overly hard to spot a sniper. Half a sniper's job is prep, and if he had bad cam, he wouldn't even have passed his sniper course.

well in the right place and the right bush ect, the guilie suit dose blend in. But there is hardly anywhere on BF2 you can find this. Its really hard to use a guillie suit when you are trying to compeat with grass draw distnaces ect...

Thankgod.

Get rid of the Sniper and make his kit pickup-able on certain maps.

Wheel i love the idea about this designated marskman....have brough it up myself once :P but then, could the DEVS also add a binocular to the kit..or the kits..like in the old games :P it would be much easyer for example squad leaders to point out artillery spots.......

I dont think u can make kits pickup-able in BF2, but i aint tryed it myself yet ill test it out soon to make sure. Im pretty sure it was a feature EA left out with all the other things. How nice of them hu?

Solution to Ghillie suits - Invisibility cloak, Harry Potter Style.

I like the idea of a sniper kit on the map - so you can spawn as a marksman, but if you want that individual kit - the lone wolf, stealth type, you can go for it. Maybe it should have the M95, or some other high damage, single shot weapon, used in the field but only rarely.

that would be good - I disagree with getting rid of the dedicated sniper class altogether (military forces still use dedicated snipers, its just with urban warfare, squad marksman(s) are more common), but making it a kit that can be picked up and replacing the spawnable class with a marksman would be a great idea

you will very realy see a full sniper on a battlefiled. They are used for special missions mainly.

Don't get rid of it :\

I like the idea of the M-14 though. I've personally fired it, and it packs quite a punch compared to an M-16. We should have a scoped M-14 for the designated marksman.

That uniform with the cap looks awesome. I agree that it should look like that. Maybe instead of binoculars he could have a spotting scope to spot for artillery or something like that?

as I said, marksman (marksmen?) are more common - as in they still use snipers, just not often, so why make it seem like snipers play no role whatsoever in combat or never go on special lone wolf missions when they do, its just its not needed as much as marksmen

as we were saying, make a marksman class a replacement for the current sniper class and then make the dedicated sniper kit a pickup so you only have one or 2 dedicated snipers as you would IRL (for the entire force, not just a squad)

yes but that has been said 50times over now... but from what i know "kit pickups" is not possibal in bf2, thanks to EA, dont we love them

Im going to try and work round it thou see if i can cook somthing up on the stove quick to let you do kit pickups but i might need eggman to hack afew files for me :p

Surely you can spawn a kit?
