Getting hit from anti air missiles that weren't fired at you

This is so irritating and completly unpredictable. I don't know how realistic it is.
I'm hovering on the corner of the map in Muttrah, confident that I'm in a safe zone then all of a sudden BEEP BEEP BOOM.
Someone flared, and the Anti Air missile missed them, and then hit me.
This has happened so many times. This should be fixed I think =/

To be honnest whit you, that add realism... a the second the missile get away from launcher it turn on is own seeker. And if the missile miss, it will lock on nearest target.

I think I under stand him the missle has locked onto a flare and gone right through the flare and continued on to lock onto another target when it should of detnoated when it hit the flare

I don't know about it detonating on flares, because from what I'm reading right now the SA-7 detonates on impact. However it flying to another heat source and that heat source being another helicopter a good distance away seems very wack and unrealistic.
Furthermore, since the PR maps are greatly scaled down, it's only fair the range of the SA-7 should be scaled down as well. After all, its a short range, low altitude missile.
Edit: ALSO I'm reading that infarered, heat seeking missiles like the SA-7 have a field of view of only 1-2 degrees, so it swerving to hit another aircraft is even more unlikely.

Most missiles in PR implement lead pursuit in real life anyway, trying to intercept the target instead of going directly for the biggest source of heat available. The guidance systems are relatively simple in such missiles, using proportional navigation, meaning the missile tries to keep the target on the same bearing as it flies for the intercept point. If it can't do that, it goes dumb and eventually self-destructs.

The missiles turn rates/speed/proximity fuze are an attempt to make up for the lack of proportional pursuit.

Do the missiles detonate when they hit flares?

As far as I know, no.

Speaking of which, why were the deployable quad cannons and vulcans replaced with those stupid immobile twin tubes?

Shouldn't they?

because the cannons were more used as ground attack weapons than anti air weapons
edit - Star Trek Rules! *goes away humming the TNG theme tune*

Twin tubes are from vanilla and currently there's nothing more unrealistic in PR.
Seriosly,
Hey, I've got a portable shoulder-fired anti-air weapon. What am I going to do with it? I shall attach it to the ground to make immobile so that enemy snipers will have a great opportunity to turn my head into exploding watermelon. That's a briliant Idea!

I can“t find it, but yes they are realistic from the picture I have seen.

Something like that must be as rare as dinosaurs in 21th century.

BAM!
The Dual Mount Stinger (DMS) is a tripod-mounted launch platform for the Stinger Missile developed by Hughes Missile Systems Company (HMSC) for the SHORAD Project Office. (HMSC was later sold to Raytheon Corporation and is currently operating as Raytheon Missile Systems Corporation [RMSC].) Tripod-mounted missile launch devices are not a new concept. Developed for FMS customers, the DMS Weapon System consists of the DMS launcher with two Stinger tactical missiles (Guided Missile, Intercept Aerial). This system provides air defense capability from a fixed ground position. A self-contained system, the DMS includes its own electrical power system, argon coolant, and sighting units. Easily disassembled into portable components that require minimal set-up time, the DMS can be operated autonomously or in conjunction with an external early warning command and cueing/control system.
Jonathan, you just sound bitter about losing the "Ultra-pwn!" cannons that were not used for AA roles but were basically infantry lawnmowers. The Grail and Stinger launchers provide an acceptable balance between AA power and infantry vulnerability.

So whats the final word then? Should this be allowed to happen? Seems it shouldn't.
