[HELP!] Blinn Basic Parametres in 2009

I'm following some tutorials for 3Ds Max Design 2009 and I'm told to go to the Blinn Basic Parameters rollout in the material editor, however in 2009 that doesn't exist.
The exact instructions are on page 192 of
THIS pdf file, if anyone is able to provide me with a solution I would be very grateful, I don't want to be stalled again, and I'm looking forward to getting some decent stuff modelled.
Thanks in advance.

It's not there is 2009, I don't even have Shader Basic parameters.
I've checked pretty much every rollout menu and selection box.

Click on the button that says 'Arch and Design'
A list should come up, select 'standard' from it, then you should be able to see all the blinn stuff.

Pride, I could hug you.
Thanks so much, I can now carry on my noobish modelling (hopefully not noobish for long!)

I posted one in the "Show your models" thread, but here's some stuff to save you looking.
P38 Plane (Low poly)
Chess pieces with me messing around with lighting (not 100% on how to do a clay render, will look at some tuts)
And an in-max shot of when I was modelling the knight chess piece and the symmetry went wrong (wrong axis, is fixed now lol,) it was still a horse, just the back end.
Also, how do I make a primitive transparent, the Display Properties box is greyed out and the Alt+X shortcut doesn't work.

Hehe, got the tut off the Autodesk webby and cheers for the advice.
2 new problems;
1. How do I make a primitive transparent, the Display Properties box is greyed out and the Alt+X shortcut doesn't work.
2. The Gizmo just appears as two red lines so I am unable to drag something across only one axis, I have to use the spinners at the bottom.

did you press X ? make the Axis go crazy
to make a see trough mat , are multiple ways
richt clink on object ,then select object properties and turn see trough on
or grap a empty mat slot. assinga artitectural material to it and set the transpary to 45

X doesn't cure it unfortunately, but I'll keep fiddling.
The "turn on see through" box is greyed out, along with all of the display properties box and the second option is too confusing lol.

Cool, I'll give it a try when I get the time. Massive thinks for doing all the pictures.
I think the gizmo is back, it was on when I was experimenting with lighting for renders but I'll have to check.
