What the heck is up with the Red/Green tracers?

From what I know, the only time trackers are used for bullets is during training, for Machine Guns sometimes and for exhibitions.
Why do you have red and green trackers for all the bullets in PR? Is that really realistic? Especially for Insurgency.

If you are going to have some sort of "tracker" so that people see where the bullets come from then have neutral colours for all (like some yellow/brownish/grey).

That's all :)

They are red and green because those are the real life tracer colors. NATO uses red tracers, OPFOR/(formerly Warsaw Pact; MEC and China in this game) uses green tracers. I think the reason they put it on everything is so when there's a firefight, you can tell not only where the shots are coming from, but whether they are friendly or enemy. If you've ever played ArmA, the tracers are exactly the same color, and ArmA is supposed to be ultra-realistic.

ye it is realistic i think(not 100% sure though) that standard combat loadout is 5 ball 1 tracer or 4 ball 1 tracer for the main assault weapons then a higher number for MGs.

This is incorrect. They are used in combat.

In real life,

NATO = Red Tracers

Warsaw Pact = Green Tracers

Like Waah_wah said, insurgents don't use tracers (even in PR ;) )

They are used by members of the army who see an enemy location, they say 'follow my tracers' or something similar and then they can shoot on an enemy location while there squad knows what to shoot at. Also I suppose in some ways it kinda stops friendly fire.

yea tracer are used alot IRL , "watch my tracer" being a command for showing enemy position. and kenway (101st airborne soldier who posts here)uses his tracers in Afghanistan to show when he is low on ammo, as he has the last 3 rounds as tracers or something IIRC.

Every single time they are bad for me, not good. I mean the team should be able to voice communicate or write to each other where the enemy is. The only thing the tracers manage to do is show the ENEMY your position. :S

there are used IRL, and thus used in game. and they are VERY effective ingame if being used correctly,

they might show the enemy your position but they show you theres.

LOL I was playing a few days ago and a guy in my squad was new to the game. We came under fire and all of a sudden he's like. "WTF They're shooting lasers!" Apparently a red tracer came really close to his head and was a red streak across his vision. I was laughing so hard.

Plus when you support your teammates in a gun fight you can see where they're shooting at which saves you the trouble of asking where the enemy is.

Try directing the fire of any LMG or HMG at long range without them.

As far as I know (maybe Im wrong), they use tracers even in extreme cases. For example they need to desroy an enemy building with a javelin missile, but there is not enough heat to get a lock,so they shoot tracer rounds on the building so they can acquire a lock.
So yes, tracers are used IRL.
