Roadside Bombs for Insurgents?

I was just wondering whether it would be possible for the Insurgents to have a "landmine" style roadside bomb in one of the available kits?

I know IEDs can be used to that effect, but a landmine styled explosive would also work I guess...

Just a thought. :)

I use the IED for this myself and just hide it in environmental pockets on roads or streets. Very satisfying to blow up a whole truck full of the enemy. :)

Not just a different model - a different weapon for a different class.

It won't have to be remote detonated. It's basically the insurgents' landmine. Of course this means you'd have to warn friendlies.

I dunno.

What do you think? :)

Back in 0.6 the insurgents had two IED's - A mine and C4. With 0.7 (or so) both were replaced with the IED's we have right now.

Only started PR at 0.75 release :P

so basically a proximity IED.... seems good, but maybe limited ?

I suppose. It would have both it's positive points and negative points (say, limited proximity, or no differentiation between teams)

Making it not too powerful to get completely rejected by the developers, but also strong enough to prove an effective weapon in matches. Blowing up a truck full of soldiers with a proximity mine? Sounds good to me.

A tank Commander who was in Iraq told me his buddy took 7 IED hits, and his Chally was still functioning fine, so yeah, tanks should be damaged, but very slightly.

as long as it doesnt explode due to infantry, don't want BF2 claymores now do we?

would be good really :D

"commander this is challenger"
"go ahead challenger"
"we have identified roadside bombs at position blah blah"
"roger that, dispatching engineers"

or somthing

If it goes like BF2 Claymores it will be:

"commander this is challenger"
"go ahead challenger"
"we have identified roadside bombs at position blah blah"
"roger that, dispatching engineers"
"Commander, were gunna need some new engineers, over"

I like the idea, but surely this could lead to some whoring of Proximity IEDs outside of bases? (Or as close as possible to them.)

well i have just finished reading up on the subject on the net. it seems that triggered roadside bombs are used in Iraq but only by the most professional cells, but it's pretty "uncommon" to use them so far and are still far outweighed by the remotely triggered ieds.
it seems reasonable that it could be of use in the game, but only as a limited kit for a number of reasons.
1) to not start a trend of dropping the bomb as soon as you spawn thereby cutting of a whole area which would not be done in a real insurgency IRL since you will still want access of the civies to the areas of the cities and access for your own troops.
2) it's not utilized in the same amount in the current conflict in the ME.

it could be implemented in this way, but it would have to be balanced in force etc.

personally I do not like the idea, but it might be kinda realistic but could end up destroying gameplay.
