Markers etc.

Hi,
I have a suggestion, what about deleting the markers. There's nothing realistic on them.
Communication is the weapon!

Ehm, this was a serious question. Looks like yours wasn't.

In real life you have maps, better "VoIP" and inter command communication, peripheral vision. You can point, you have more points of reference...
Countless other things are available to real life soldiers for being aware on the battlefield. I think its OK that we get move markers and repair makers, otherwise half the squaddies would sit their with their thumbs up their butts asking "You want me to repair what?? Where? I dont see it? Enemy contact? Where?? compass rose 310? Im 100 yards to the side of you I dont see the same numbers. Move where? The hill? Hill? Which one? This is Qwai, there are a million and a half hills!!" etc
Sure those arent the best examples, but youve got to leave a bit of slack for it being a video game.
And yeah, if you dont want them, turn them off

And tell your squad to as well

you should keep the markers on the map, but the 3d marker flying in the middel of the AIR yo could remove. In real life you maybe point a one location for moving up, but Bf2 can't have theat, so maybe you should keep the markers, but atleast turn off the range. I don't really know what I want.

You want to press whatever key turns off 3D map for you if markers bother you that much. Really, though, the 3D gameworld markers are a necessary evil, and fine as they are. The range can be something of a cheat when using the UGLs and whatnot, but it helps you determine where the marker is pointing. After all, it's floating on the HUD and there's no depth of field to it. You need to actually move around to get a natural feel for how far away a marker is. If you've ever had the laser painter go wonky on you, you know what I'm talking about.

Yup, that's what I mean, turn off range and delete the marker on your screen, only show them on your map.

I don't know, but the SL can just say, build this please at my position.

Probably there is a point that escapes from you....
Irl apart from the communication as radio with your squad, you have a visual communication by means of gestures, I do not speak of the gestures of opening fire or to stop it, or of the gestures recapturing the march or stopping, or of the gestures of to embark in vehicles, but of indicating visual references in the area.
I believe that these marks are tremendously important in the internal organization of the squad, even they should improve and extend.
In my squad I use them for almost quite, indicate contacts, measure distances, in the map I explain brefings rapid initially of the games, place sectors of shot and zones of death in the ambushes...
It is like to indicate with the hand, will be interesting all the members of the squad could do a mark ... only one.

and how can a SL check then if ha can build a fb there if he cant check the range with his marker?
How would a Grenny or Sniper gets his target rage?
Let it as it is now...
Its a Game... And to much reality kills a Game.

5 meters ... if you play lil' bit PR you know what 5 meters is ingame. A sniper is always working with a spotter. I think the range should be avaiable with the SOFLAM. Irl the spotter tells him how far away the target is too.

When trying to place razor wire with precision, guess doesn't cut it. In Real Life, there's better depth perception as well, it's easier to guess ranges in real life because you have references you just can't replicate in PR.

I'd like to revisit this subject. I think they should be removed. I would rather have to tell friendlies where stuff is by things like "due west, left of the corregated fence" rather than "west, on the attack marker" doesn't feel as immersive.
BUT! The icon should still come up on ur map. This is because its harder to gauge how far away stuff is ingame than IRL because of the fact you are lookin in to a little window in to another universe.
the GLTD should have a rangefinder to replace attack markers. Would be more realisitc and make more sense.

I too, have held the conviction that they should be removed. Of course kept for on map uses to navigate the squad (forcing them to at least look at the map), but now with better communication assets such as mumble becoming more often used, magical floating targets only seeable by 6 select people are extremely unrealistic.
Personally, I'd hope that the map was an actual weapon or had an animation to take out at least, but that threads been buried for a while. If that ever does happen, though, this would surely be a stepping point towards that. And for everyone out there complaining perhaps about how it's necessary for squad coehsion or situational awareness, weren't those the same reasons given against taking away SL spawning and the minimap?

dont markers kinda take the place of GPS units in the game? I mean we dont have gps units per se, but the marker system sort of represents it?
and a little off topic but you know what I hate? when over voip I relay the position of a bad guy, by using landmarks etc something like "hes behind those bushes left of the blue building by the street" and one of my squaddies says "HURF DURF CAN YOU PUT A MARKER ON IT" its like moron, i just told you where he is im not gonna bring up my map and try to place a marker right on the enemys location and probably get shot in the process. rant over.

? The map takes the place of the GPS...
And as my friend Scot has so truthfully said, if you design a game around retards, the game will become retarded, so don't go against it for the simply reason that an idiotic SM couldn't tie his own shoes unless you pointed the laces out to him

You don't have to bringing up your map, you can place markers via squad comrose (default "T")

Yea, keep the markers for the map, but that marker you see int eh gameworld should go
I mean...its a small change right? just remove the marker file and it won't get loaded.

Since you can't point in game, this is pretty much crucial to the gameplay.
