better squad feeling

I think we need something to make the squad feel like a tactical unit, when beeng a quead leader organization is really difficult sometimes. specially for defence. I would like ti implement something.
look to arma 2 or commandos 1 , 2, 3.
they have some photos that tell you the name of your quead members and his role and status.
you can see that photos at the left bottom of the picture.
this is too complex for bf2 engine I think, but what about this:
repleace the photos with the KIT image or simbol (automatic rifleman, medic, ect) and his status (alive, incapacitated).
if I had that it would be really easier for me to organize everithing, and even better if the nickname of that people could appear on the bottom of the kit image.
I think it's also quite realistic and would improve the gameplay

I don't get it, press caps lock, and you see if they are alive/dead and their kits
if you mean placing it on the HUD, I say no, the idea is that there is minimal hud

Yes, I think the Dev's want the HUD rather clear.
Additionaly, always being aware of the status of every squadmember without even clicking a button might be unrealistic.
But the Idea isnt all that bad, and maybe it would even be possible somehow. But I dont think its really needed and realistic. (And of course there is the caps thing)

Uh, all you have to do is hit tab, to see the kit symbols of your squad and see if they are dead or not.
If you hit home and click on certain "green" people in your squad, it tells you who they are. That's even more information that you are offering to put on this HUD.
I think the SL system is great right now.

I agree with you on this one. Sometimes it's more fun to not know friendly status. For example:
Your on KASHAN DESERT with your squad, pinned in the north bunker holding off against constant assault. Now imagine for a minute that you DIDN'T have the squad screen with status and kits (and for good measure, imagine that VOIP/Chat didn't work if your dead).
So your squad is covering all entrances, and every so often you do a status check over VOIP/Chat. After 5 or so Sit Rep's , you don't get a response from one of squad mates guarding the Bathroom vent. Now you need to check in, so you send one member to check it out, he gets there and reports "I FOUND HIS BODY, I'M GOING TO RETURN TO...." and the check cuts out there. Your only assumption is that he has been killed, along with the other member. Now you ready your remaining squad to prepare for an attack.
Now it unfortunate that VOIP/Chat is hardcoded, but doesn't that sound more fun than a dead squad member immediately saying he was killed by an enemy and which way they came from?

I completely agree with that. Its too bad that this is hardcoded. Plus, with Teamspeak etc it would be able to get around that limit.

The U.S. military are working on a system that measures bodily functions such as heart rate etc as far as I know, but even when that is developed it's mostly for medical uses (I'd imagine high ranking officers might keep an eye on them too) I don't think this kinda info would be available to SLs till we get into a ghost recon kinda era of military technology if anything like that ever does occur.

^ thats all in the FCS part of the US Army website, its almost sci fi...but its very cool
think of the scene from aliens 2 where the marines go in to the reactor
my favourite thing was actually that video call system for doctors and field medics so doctors can diagnose from miles away as they also receive the vitals of the patient. There is also meant to be a translation program with that allowing different nationalities to work using it.

you know someone is deade becouse you can hear him in voip, but as a SL you dont feel that "lost", if you had this I think it would impact more.

The only thing I think that would make a squad feel more real is if we could get proximity voices going. If you've ever played ARMA with its its kinda creepy in a good way. "You guys I have a enemy over here" and you know where hes looking
My ideal set up would be only SL would have radios. All others would have vehicle voice or proximity voice.

There's the whole Teamspeak problem to deal with as ever though, wish the was a way to tame that bloody thing when it came to some stuff.

How about pats on the butts, can that be implemented, that way i would know what its like to be part of a team.
IMHO VOIP and using it properly is the way to feel like a squad/team, many servers also have Teamspeak as an added bonus.....

When im a squad leader i sometimes(rather often) have problems giving individual commands cause i need too look at theyr names all the time,
Is it possible to have a "box" in the options menu, something like the "make all audio english" box but this box "lets call it squad overlay" would show your squad mates names lets say on the left of the screen,
So cause its a On/off box people can turn on/off as they wish.... but only names nothing else... i still wish to know who's dead by clicking caps
Propably happycoded, but hey, u get credit for trying it xD

Saw it a few month back in a thread but didn't check it out. Last thing a DEV needs to to be Banned by PB
You can try to do what I've seen playing with Fuzz is divide your team/squad into two teams. A/B, Alpha & Beta, Fireteam & support team. This works really well. You dont have to remember names just the two teams names.
