HK gunsight (a "balanced" approach)

well, if we look at some threads about the g3(especially these) and other HK sights like mp5 irons in CQB i have something here that i want to bring to attention.
ive done some research at Wikipedia(ofcourse by the references), i have me and my brain have come to an agreement about the other irons in comparison to the G3's.
the M16A4s and M4s use the cqb version (flip on the carrier to change to the long distance one, the difference is a smaller peek-hole to look through.)
and the g3s have the 300m up. using
MG42's firearm pages ©mg-42.net 2001-2006 site ive seen on the MP5 that there are CQB sights on these, therefore i presumed that the G3s also have similiar.
Now ive never been my 1 year conscription in the army to see this first hand, but im pretty sure of this.
mp5 irons
these MP5 irons are similiar to COD4 (not realistic, but they had have had reference for some of their models) and RSV2 (again not particularly realistic however they HAD to have some kind of base to model from)
PROs:if we give such sights to g3's i think it'll make CQC easier
Balance to m16a4s and m4s(not sure about the L85 but i think it has the big reticle up too)
CON:we'd need a new model, or to tweak the one we have(time, you could use to do more social stuff or something, however i know the DEVs live in computers so i dont think this is a real issue)
on the link i gave you there are also more info on the HENSOLDT 4x scopes for the scoped g3s if neccessary, for the weegians at the site, there are some nice AG3 info there too!

I like it. I always had a distaste for the G3's irons, so this could help.

Indeed, the G3 Ironsights are very hard to use because the sight covers most of the surroundings of the target. Something more open would definitely be better but wouldn't that require to remake the G3 model? Whatever the work involved however, the actual ironsights should be changed to those to improve gameplay. Right now, Ironsighted G3 is the most innefective weapon in PR and I think many agree : even the Ak-47 is better ATM..

We can't change the Mp5 or the HK53 as they are vanilla models.

Are you really sure G3A3's have those? Didnt know that. Not even all MP5's have them afaik. So its probably more realistic for the MP5 not to have it anyway. You could make the hole bigger by changing the texture though I asume (for the MP5 i mean - as they do for sure have different hole sizes for different ranges).
Or... is the hole not a matter of texture and can only be changed by modeling? In that case: nevermind.

Alright, thats cool. Thanks for the picture.
Though the picture does not show a G3A3 but a short version of the G3. (See the stock and its name "G3FS" - Probably meaning Fallschirm(jäger), that'd be the short G3A4 then or something along these lines). That doesnt mean that the A3 couldnt have that too.

iirc, the operation of the firearms are identical, and only the stock is the difference.

I think so too, but I'm not 100% sure. But since its already being worked on by the Dev's, I asume the MA's confirmed it anyway.

The HK aperture sights have 4 settings, two of which are open, and two of which are closed. Optimally, the person can select which one they want by simply rotating the round "drum" of the rear sight, bringing the desired selection into position. I'm fairly certain that's not an option here unfortunately.
Still, would be great to see the open sights standard on the HK guns, since the American rifles are modeled with their open sights.

Well there is alot of different sights to choose from on the G3, there is even an anti aircraft sight!!!

While I can't comment on HK firearms specifically, I have shot a SIG-550 with the drum sight and found it to be the easiest to use and most accurate sighting system I've tried (other sights I used being: flip-up sights for an AR-15 flat-top, M-16 arpeture sights, M-14 / M1 garand style sights, and open AK style sights on an SKS) It was the only sight I could easily hit plates with at 300m (this was my VERY first time actually shooting).
It's a shame people don't like them. I for one wouldn't mind keeping them.

The G3A3 has rotary drum sights with 4 different positions, numbered 1 through to 4. They are zeroed to 100, 200, 300 and 400m respectively. "Position 1" is an open "V sight" whereas the other positions are closed "peep sights". (Source: P10 of
http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/pdf ... m_nato.pdf)*
The MP5 also has rotary drum sights with 4 different positions but the difference is that they all zeroed to 25m. Due to the ballistics characteristics of the 9mm round the MP5 fires, the second point of impact is approximately at 100m. The difference between the positions lies in the size/type of the aperture. Just like Chuc posted.
Those will be the G3A3 iron sights in 0.85. Unfortunately, we cannot do the same for the MP5 or HK21 since they're Dice models.
