I'm a big fan of the battlefield series, and actually used to play a lot of mods on 1942. I decided to try out a couple of the more popular mods, and this ones name came up. I guess what I am asking is, what am I in for as a new player? Like the term "reality" mod keeps getting thrown around, and I get the concept, make things more real. I guess what I am asking for, do you have any tips for a first time player?

Also, try out training on a local server, online training servers are full of vBF2 idiots, although they provide good targets when I'm on Smacktard patrol in a Super-Cobra.

Definitely read the manual. Also, when you join in your first game, make sure you let your squadleader know it's your first time playing so he can help you out and not give you a task that's too important

If he kicks you out because your new he is not worth to be a sl. ALot of idiots out there.

Welcome. As the others said, read the manual and train a bit on a local server.

Stay away from helicopters and jets until you're sure how to use them. Nothing's worse than crashing into a tree with a whole squad in your helicopter.

It's good to RTMFM, but it isn't all that they say it is.

Just get out there and play with a good squad. You'll learn everything from experience, but you should also look over the guide to avoid making too many game-breaking mistakes while you learn.

Anyway, don't worry about your mistakes - you'll get better, everyone does. This mod has an unreal learning curve, but it's nothing if you have a decent squad to show you the way in real games.

1. Make sure you read the manual (I know people keep saying it)
2. Get a mic if you don't have one don't be shy use it.

Stick with the basic kits to start, trust me a good rifleman is an asset in a squad, medic also. Join an infantry squad and stay near your squadleader. Careful about friendly fire make sure you i.d. targets before you shoot at em. Aim your shots and fire every two seconds or so preferably kneeling or prone. Lead running targets a bit.

*Be patient* this game rewards the patient.

Again, thanks a lot guys. I did some training today, messed with each of the kits, and read through the manual. Got down piloting jets, but no landing just yet. I'll probably test out helicopters and sniping tomorrow, and when I feel up to I'll hop on some servers and make sure I don't make too much of a fool out of myself.

I've ran squads in BF2 and BF2142, and I make a pretty decent squad member, definitely not shy on the mic. I've just been looking for something like this mod, and can't wait to play.

Welcome! If you want your advice, unless you truly love sniping, leave it out for the majority. I happen to have a friend who I spot for whilst he snipes, but really the best experience you can get is definately just playing infantry. I would say just go for a Pub game, say I'm new, and hopefully you'll have a great time

1. Find a squad called VOIP/Teamwork or simply find a squad where the squad leader has an officer kit.
2. Spawn as a medic
3. Folow your squad leader
4. Have fun and dont die too much

never attain the anti tank (HAT) kit because you will die in a friendly fire incident or chopper crash. then you'll get yelled at when enemy tanks come. it happened on my first day =p

I'd still heavily recommend stick to the basics before you go grabbing the million dollar assets and make epic fail out of one of them.

Seems everyone's post BF2 instinct is to charge to the helos and jets usually with pretty shameful results.

You've got some good advice already, Ill just reiterate:

- Find a good squad with a capable squad leader

- Let them know you are new to the mod (good squad leaders will help you out alot if you let them know)

- Start with the basics (rifleman, medic) and see how the gameplay is before trying the more advanced stuff.
