Training mode

Is it getting more popular then the actual real thing ?
It seems to me like there are more and more servers running training mode most of the time and people not training but actually fighting each other on the server. Obviously it makes less and less people playing on the real mod...
Anyone else feel the same ?
Training mode is very useful to learn how to operate vehicles but its sad people plays on it instead of real game mode.
Actually, its easier to populate a training server then a real game mode server...

We at iGi have recognised this problem, and set our training server to 16 slots, passworded it (pass is publicly avaliable and is 'training')
I encourage ALL training servers to have no more than 20 slots.
Battleforce in particular is often half full or full (max slots 64) which is quite frankly...silly.

in SA forums there was a post about it , and IIRC the devs have said that they advise servers to only be sub 20.
like rudd said our community server password is "training" (clever right?) so use that if u wanna get away from noobs with a few friends.

its not really a "mod" its a "Game Mode"...
Ye, we have seen this becoming more and more of a problem, the training mode was only made to help players learn bits of the mod and have a place to practices but more and more we see this being exploited and used for just essentially a PR with lots and vehicles and low respawns...
We intend to change the training mode in a few ways for v0.85 to stop it being used like it is now and how it was meant to be used.

My opinion is rather insignificant here, but I suggest two server restrictions for training in 0.85:
1) Restrict the server license to 16-player servers.
2) Ensure that every training server is passworded.
(Depending on how available they want the server to be for Joe Schmo, server admins can control password distribution or put their passwords out for all to see. Both solve the random noob problem on servers that don't want random noobs.)

Maybe if there were certain maps especially made for training it would solve the problem. If you made it so it would be hard for the two teams to fight each other, (unless its certain types of vehicles or maybe even abolish one of the teams) it might solve the problem. I know there are static targets, and people have been pushing for training courses, so why not make Gun ranges where people can practice accuracy, and obstacle courses where people can practice their movement skills? You could put in building clearing (and make them random spawns) and do a variety of things that would be fun to do with friends and also help you hone your skills.
So, maybe:
Abolish a team
Make a number of courses people could do [make kits requestable at different courses] , this would include:
Obstacle courses (for infantry and light jeeps)
Gun Ranges (short and long range, for all types of vehicles and infantry)
Building Clearing courses (random spawns, with hostage targets and enemy targets)
Explosion and Repairing courses (use bridges, vehicles, and razor wire)
Medic courses 9make some sort of radius that wounds people, and medics could partice healing on each other)

afaik there are at least two community mappers already working on shooting range type training maps

Well, if those maps are made well, they will solve the problem.

I think the only training map with an OPFOR should be a dogfight practice map. You can only spawn as a pilot, and you can only leave the base in one of the jets. All the others should be just training courses with only one working team.

Very good news
A "funny" thing is that even tho training server are so popular, I still see some new player crashing helicopters for exemple trying to take off too fast in real game mode... Kinda odd
I love the specially designed training map idea with shooting range, obstacle courses, building clearing, bombing range, etc. Although, I doubt that would stop people from playing on training servers.

Personally I'm not bothered, it keeps people from doing stupid things in real games, if it continues to syphon these people out then I'm pretty happy.
If anything I quite like having a place to go mess about, if I actually wanna train properly online with randoms then I'll go to a server where this behaviour isn't happening, much like finding a good game of proper PR, if I wanted to train with people I knew I'd join a empty or barely populated server.
Can understand if the DEVs are upset with this turning into a gamemode so to speak, but I don't see a problem with it, there's not really much of a game in it anyway.

The only benefit I see coming from this is that it provides a big box to suck all the smacktards into so that they won't ruin real PR.

I like Kashan training servers. They usually don't dissolve into an all out war, due to the way spawns are set up, but they do allow to practice flying online with some occasional AA evasion thrown in (which is something you can't do offline). Would be nice if more training maps were set up like Kashan training, instead of having all the AAS flags but just with more vehicles instead.
Training maps should be for setting up various scenarios in various spots, not for full on AAS.

I'm not a great fan of training servers.. They seem to encourage immaturity and go against the nature of PR - lots of newbies flaming and spamming, commanders messing around and aa camping around the helicopter spawns (at least that's my experience of it). I believe the training mod should only be on private servers or limited to 10-20 slots so we don't get the conflicts that we do already.

I am witness, I was on a Kashan Training map trying to show my buddy a bit about flying helos and it was an all out battle and 'nilla noobish nonsense.
Apparently people are going to these servers more often to play it like its some kind of standalone game.
I agree its cheesy.

If people want to go and vanilla it up on the training servers, good for them. It just gets them out of the real servers for when we go play. Think of them as n00b-traps

i myself find the traing servers good as they are.
But not for training. But if im alone in TS, and have not enough time to play on a "real" server i conncet on them.
Because after spawn on a traing server the fight direkt beginns
And i was on them to explain the new ones how it works better to use a chopper or things like that.
Its funny to see the us guys fly with a chopper 10 feet over the ground, dropping flears like hell and i shoot them down in a 1 sec burst with the AAV...
As other guys said here. U really wanne a guy in ur sq on a "real" server that only is on for an hour and dont want to play the real way...
Let them on the training servers...

Yeah, thats a way to see it but the problem is, I still see people crashing helicopters in real game mode because they tried to take off too fast or stuff like that...
Its a sad thing it is easier to populate a training server then a real one.
People should be using training game mode to learn the basics of PR then to go on the real game mode, not to play for hours on training with all-out battles.
