Destroy the crates, or not?

When setting up firebases, the rule of thumb seems to be that you destroy one of the crates so that the enemy can't set up a firebase in the exact same spot after overrunning yours. Some people don't always do it, though.

So, is it really a good idea? On one hand, you don't want an enemy to have it easy and set up a FB in place of yours if it gets overrun either through you getting defeated or through negligence. On the other hand, if your firebase is in a defensive position, having more ammo helps the various heavy weapons that are likely to stick around. In fact, when defending, it would seem a good idea to have as many ammo crates as you could possibly get, so that you don't run low on supplies and get overrun (think river fort in Seven Gates).

On top of that, on maps with helicopters, destroying just one crate means that a single helicopter can enable the enemy to make a firebase in the same spot just the same.

So, thoughts?

I usualy do the contrary when sniping or going on key locations : I shoot at least one crate when choppers/trucks come to prepare a FB, that usualy pisses them off and slows them down wich fits me well :D

But when FB/B is being overrun, I tend to destroy both crates if I can.

It also depends on the situation : If the FB is on a nevralgic point, it will be defended most of the time so it's easy to decide on the last minute if the crates should be destroyed. If however, the FB is to be left undefended and exposed to enemy patrols/recon-teams, then yes, it's better to blow up the crates before leaving for the frontline.

destroy one crate if the firebase isn't expecting combat, destroy no crates if it is expecting combat you expect to win, destroy all crates if the firebase is about to be overrun.

Depends very much on the map.

As Chinese on Barracuda, one crate is just as good as two to the enemy. A single crate can be delivered so quickly by the US that leaving one is just silly.

I never destroy something, that could be useful to my team - if the FB gets overrun, it is our fault, if the enemy can build a FB then, it is our incompetence. What if one crate is destroyed and one gets damaged in combat? Then some Pilot or Driver has to spend his time to get supply back to you.. i can“t see any tactical advantage in it.

I will destroy all crates belonging to enemy (only after reloading). Or step up an ambush is always rewarding.

The man said it.

i would like to see the boxes gone after deploying a firebase, they are used for the stuff you need for building so they should be used up after the setup.

maybe this can be done by some special kind of boxes which dont rearm and can be only used for deploying a firebase.
