[Weapon] "OMG is that a claymore!!!1"

From the
[Gameplay] Insurgency Topic, many people noticed a small icon that looked like a claymore on the sapper kit and many people asked: "OMG is that a claymore!!!1!!".
No, it's not a claymore, thou its kinda like a claymore. It is in fact a "Grenade Trap", inspired by our member EOD_Security-2252's "
Wire Trap" Project that never really took off, our MAs where very keen to see this in so myself and other team members got onto making it.
The weapon acts more or less like the claymore in vbf2, BUT there are some differences, if you move slowly though the wire, you can go over it without triggering it and it is "mag linked" to the F1 Hand Grenade in the kit, so the Sapper needs to decide, if he wants to throw the nade at the enemy or set it up on the ground as a trap. There are other small tweaks too but we will let you find them out once v0.85 is out

Better than a claymore for sure.

Why not make it proximity triggered and have the distance to be just a few meters instead of putting a long pole that everyone can see for the trigger?
Or at least make the pole thinner.

I knew this screenshot would come in handy, its not a pole, its a wire, like what would be there in r/l since you trip the wire to detonate it, and its very hard to see, see if you can see it:

Great work! Will be a nice addition to the insurgency gameplay
Will it disappear when the player that has placed it dies? Or how long after?

This means you will potentially trigger the trap before you even walk through the doorway. Pole if you look hard enough, is the antennae model off the vehicles and is also used on the tripflares. If you're careful or at least on your toes, its not hard to pick these out, and if you're setting them, don't completely think that "Oh I set a grenade trap, it must be foolproof!"

I'm not a BF2 engine expert but thinner poles probably don't render at distance (or at all).
That's pretty cool cause they work against friendly or even yourself too (not like on most BF2/2142 servers).
Good job

!

Because you then have a claymore?

I think it's the same as the Trigger Flares, which everyone (including my own squad who I told everyone: "I PUT A TRIP FLARE AT THE DOOR!!") seems to miss.

It really fits my idea of insurgency weapon, so this is great, and the animation is EXCELLENT.

Looks great but why does it explode instntly when soldier touches the wire ? Soldier tripping on wire should pull the grenade out of the can which should release the spun and grenade should explode after ~4 seconds.

ye, we tried and tried again to try and get a delay, but we just couldn't get it to work, easy to do it to a hand nade as you just give the projectile a "time to live" value, thou if you give this a "time to live", it would just blow up 4secs after you placed it on the ground

There was no way we could find of giving it a delay after trigger, hard coded stuff
