what happend to CaC

ive never been able to play Command and conquer...but i want to play it...ive only seen it up the first few months of .8....but now i never see servers run it

its a WIP, it doesn't quite work yet and admins do not risk their populations by putting it on now that we've tried it.

-takes too long since there are no flags to force players in to contension and therefore decrease tickets

-misunderstanding about the mode led to alot of baserape at mains

-misunderstanding about the mode led to alot of annoyance on behalf of players who actually know what is expected of them when idiots just treat it like conquest vBF2

afaik its been changed for .85 and for one, iGi will be trying it out.

You really need an organized team (or two) to have fun with CnC. I wonder if the tournament is playing CnC...

It's more of a "hardcore" gamemode and doesn't work well with public servers because there are no flags to capture. People are used to a "go here, kill this" style of gameplay, which isn't quite how CnC works.

I thought it was busted? Something about not knowing where the cap zone was and that you can cap each other out once all outpost were laid out.

it needs capable teams so pub is out of question :D

but it needs slight refinement and it will be great as right now its build 4 firebase , then rush main.

if they refined it so you main isnt a flag just a spawn, or something like you NEED to destroy enemy firebases to "Unlock" there main it would be ALOT better.

=DaM= has hosted it every 4 rounds or so in the past, but it clears out the pubs. It's sad, because I've actually had several good experiences with it. The main bases do need cap radii, because otherwise there are lots of misunderstandings. And there needs to be more incentive to seek out and destroy enemy firebases instead of just everyone going engie and spamming FOBs all over with all the supply trucks.

I might talk to our admin and see if we can take advantage of this promising mode, though. Maybe advertise it as a once a week thing, but invite everyone from the forums who misses it? Dunno. It's fun, just needs a slight bit of work, and to be played more.

-I think the only way to get proper CnC games up is to have a server dedicated to the game mode. That way people know what they're getting into(Hopefully).

Every now and then Tactical Gamer will set up a CnC night. The last time we did, it was a pick 'em night. Everyone who wanted to participate would get on our Teamspeak server, and the two volunteer commanders a selected their team members school-yard dodgeball style. Once the teams were sorted out, the admins released the password over Teamspeak and everyone joined the server.

Every time we do it, everyone seems to have a lot of fun, so we will likely do it again sometime. Watch our forums and when the time comes, there will be a thread about it.

The notion was to create a near completely free form game mode, so I think it will take a couple of iterations to get right. Plus it was never intended to appeal to pub players, was more like an "organised event" sort of game mode. Originally the idea was quite complex.. building on the concept of an "economy". But we never really got the economy to work in AAS (with the CMDR assets) so it didn't really transfer over to CnC.

The mode needs a bit of a rethunk, will have to see how much of the original concept we can realize and how much of that is enjoyable to play.

CnC is getting updates in v0.85, but it's not intended for normal public games.
