Special Forces

Hey, not got the game yet, hoping too for christmas along with a new PC that will play it easily, but I've got a question.
I looked at the kits in the guide and with the special forces I was wondering which special forces they are supposed to be?
I mean, take for example the British, it can't be the SAS because there is a lack of Parachute and the SAS normally use the USP or Sig P228/6.
I don't think it can be the SBS because there don't seem to be enough boats or water in maps for that.
I doubt it being the SRR since they are completely unknown as to what they use or the type of missions they do.
It can't be the JSFAW since they are pilots.
I doubt it being the SFSG since they support special forces, they are not true special forces in themselves.
And finally I don't think it will be 18 UKSF signal regiment, because thats communications and information, not really carrying out missions.
Plus these forces hardly ever work along side the normal troops, with the exeption of the Para regiments, the Pathfinders and occasionally the marines, which I thought about and then remembered that they use the L85 like the rest of the army, not the M4/C7 like the Special Forces.
So yeah, which special forces/regiment does the special forces kit represent?

I think all issues regarding the "special forces" kit will be resolved in the next version.

As far as who it represents, that is a difficult question to answer, I would say they would be the SAS, but it's not really specific.

Special forces in my *** they are mostly used as a demolition man and spotter. Saboteur would be a better name imo.

Just a quick point, just cos the SAS are Special Air Service, doesn't mean they go everywhere with a parachute strapped to their back

The SAS don't actually make that many operational drops. Even though they have one para Sqn they are often placed into the ground role but still have the capability.

Yeah I know, theres Mobility Troop, Ground Troop, Water Troop and Air Troop on alot of missions they do.
Mobility use vehicles, Ground have Grappling hooks, Water Troop is a less specialised SBS and Air Troop parachute down.
But thats 3 different SF, with the main one being Air Troop due to it being the Air Service so if its SAS I think it would be represented by Air Troop or made so that each troop could be used, but having all the equiptment would make it cluttered I think, and I don't think theres much point in having 4 Special Forces for the probably few people that will use it.
So I'm still unsure.

They're just specialisations, they're all trained to a 'general' standard as far as i understand it.

Very true, the SBS have been operating in Afghan for many years.

They're part of a group that is so elite that they have no name.

the 2 kits per fraction dont represent any special forces unit, they are simply to represent special support units like demolitions experts and CAS liasons.

Counter-question: Does it really matter?
I don't really care which Fireteam / Squad / Section / Platoon / Company / Battalion / Regiment / Brigade / Division I'm playing with.

It doesn't represent any force
It represents elements given tasks that special forces would carry out IRL.
could be anyone, even another country's soldiers.

*Hijacks thread for quick question/idea*
I just wondered if it would be in all possible and or likely that the SF could be more 'individual' per faction. For example - The British SF, lets say that they are SAS, well maybe they could get a parachute, or some other unique weapon or item used by that group.
Then the MEC could be a specialist demolitions expert and have extra explosives or something.
I dunno, that was just a quick idea I had on the spur posting this. (Probably a resuggestion)
*END OF THREAD HIJACK - ALL HOSTAGES HAVE BEEN RELEASED*
Maybe the Brits SF is just a specially trained soldier from the Royal Marines who has been trained especially in the theory of covert warfare...

^ nah, special forces training is comprehensive no? even if there are specialisations within even that group.

They have one with a M240 on every door (aside from the driver) and a ASP-30 30mm auto-cannon RWS system on a turret.

I guess. Although I swear I read somewhere that the special forces soldiers get to choose a profession e.g Medic or Close Air Support (The Radio Guy). Then again thats not really what I was talking about before is it?
