New Class - Guard?

I was playing on a server today... playing steel thunder... love the forest.

We (ZiiP) were chatting about on TS about PR as we're all pretty new to it. We were commenting on how lush the long grass was to hide in, and how without an active UAV, you could sneak around quite easily.

Someone then mentioned the idea about having a mini-UAV available for local troops - but, obviously, that's not very realisitic and defies the point on PR... however, it got me thinking...

In Medal of Honour, years and years ago, there used to be a dog mod. - where a guard dog would patrol and give chase. I thought - that would be fanastic as a class in PR... A guard with a dog.

The model could follow the owner.. and if enemy was close it could "pick up" on the scent so to speak and give "chase"... A crazy rampant down chasing down a lone sniper would be extremely funny :D

The guard could carry a whistle as a weapon, which causes the dog to return or something... anyhow... just an idea... :D :P 8)

That wuld be awesome to do but I think its impossible with the BF2 engine, I'm not an expert but i thnk it would be relitively impossible or extremely hard to do.

Interesting Idea.... I'm not sure if it's possible but it's a great idea...

im guessing not possible, but neat idea.

how about a pet bat? it could use its echo location to give a position :-P

Not as unrealistic as you think... wait for future updates!

In real life soldiers do deploy mini UAV's.... I thought the dog bit would be very difficult to code and deploy.

Could a UAV be made so you can launch it and fly it (yourself) and aim a camera to pinpoint enemy's on the ground?

A nice way to bring back UAV's.

I agree. Or just a very small UAV "Radar" range...

I dont think that would be apreciated with people who are acoustom to not being seen on radar.

Besides if i was controling a little aircraft with radar; it would defy the reason i was flying in the firstplace (takes my spotting job).

So your thinking of something along the lines of the remote camera for arty and mortors in bfv? I think if the UAV did a lazy circle and you had a camara view like the gunner in a helo and anything you clicked on would spot a target that would be awsome...

Now that is a great idea :D

I suggested this a while back.

I think it came to the conclusion that to implement an AI controlled aircraft would casue lag. Which I didn't agree with, looking at the UAV as it is now in vBF2.

I think having the ability to launch a UAV, then control a small camera on it while it fly's overhead would be excellent. You could then use the "Spot" command to point out enemys and other such thing's. Would be a much nicer use of the UAV.

In terms of hand-held, I know the US and UK use a system where by the operator of the UAV has the ability to simply slip on tome futuristic type goggles which have small screens in them, beaming images fro the UAV directly to them. Couldn't find any pictures though.

this would ruin the game if everyone was walking around with their own mini uav... it would be impossible to flank positions

I gotta admit, I really despise this dog idea.

Sounds like something out of Metal Gear Solid.

I can imagine it now... the voice telling you to

"Press E to ride the dog."

I don't like it.

What would happen if the target shot the dog? What is it's respawn time? Dunno if this would fit in.
