USE THE 4 THUMB BUTTONS FOR THE SIDE TOP AND SIDE VIEW ON THE x52, BUT THE ONES TO THE LEFT OF THE FIRE BUTTON, NOT BELOW THE FIRE BUTTON, i use the ones at the bottom for changing weapons.
Apparently BF2 thinks a few of the buttons are the same. I cant get the configuration i want with it...

Try using the profile editor to set the POV switch as separate buttons? for instance, if BF 2 think sthat POV switch 1 and 2 are the same, set the POV 1 switch manually ingame, and then use the profile editor to set the POV switch 2 to the corresponding keys for the actions you want them to do.
I only have the Saitek Evo, but the profile editor should be similar/the same.
Hope it helps.

It is the same. The profiler works for all Saitek devices. When you open it theres a drop down menu that lets you select which device you're using. That way you don't need more than one prog if you happen to own the X-52 AND the Rudder Pedals.
As for usage, in terms of Trans Helos I use the throttle for... well the throttle. I use the D fire button to launch flares. I don't even use the stick with Helos. Sommat in the engine is borked when it comes to that. Mouse, throttle, and I use rudder pedals for Yaw... so maybe my way can't be done easily without pedals. Works for me though.
Just saying, stick don't work well with Helos.

Yeah the software can be a pain in the ***, esp in vista.
I had to use an older beta version to get it to work.
What OS are you using? 64 bit vista?

Lockon?
Bah!
Buy DCS:black shark instead
DCS - Digital Combat Simulator
Anyways, I'm glad you solved your issues. the X52 is a great joystick, when it works.

I had it working nicely betweek the Saitek sofwtare and the BF2 key setup. Free Look was obviously missing, but othwerwise it was good. Took a while to get going and I also had my racing wheel pedals set up for use as rudders.
It made flying jets much easier, but I don't think it improved much for the helicopters... just made it a bajillion times more immersive.
But that was with XP and I am now on Vista (and I really should set up an XP partition because I find Vista to be a pile of dung).

I agree with your last comment egg. The only good is the search bar in the start menu.

Bind the "mouse look" setting to any key you like, then set one of Hat switches to emulate a mouse.
Done.

Joystick is awesome for flying JETS, driving APC/TANK -> cause i can control the gaz so i'm moving at the same speed as walking infantry !!!! THAT WAS SO NICE TO DO IT whit my clan.
But its WORST for LAND an HELO, i can fly, and stay steady whitout loosing a single feet of altitude, but it is so sensitive i almost crash each time i try to land, except it there is ALOT of space, like Carrier Deck, on KASHAN i hit the fence all the time.
