Create a squad even on single player training in order to be able to request the proper kits (or any kits for that matter). It doesn't matter if anyone else is in the server or not, it is coded to require you to be in a squad (even one man) on training mode in order to request kits.
Don't give up on PR, it is a good game once you get the basics down.

1: Press capslock. Click 'Create squad'.
2: Hold T. Click 'Select Kit'
3: Click 'Pilot'
4: Get in Chopper
5: ???
6: PROFIT!
Also, read the manual, and don't accuse people of not understanding. We can only understand the facts that you give us, and if they're wrong we can't help you.

what it is on traning maps on some helicopters it will not allow you to get the polot kit for somereason, just go to the huey and use that for getting the pilot kit.
idk why but some helicopters on the thing (usually the ones that dont require pilot kits) dont allow you to get a pilot kit from them
sorry, stoped reading on the first page=P

Some helicopters don't allow you to get pilot kits from them, because you don't need pilot kits to fly them

. This is only in Training mode and with a few select helicopters, however.
