Player speed

Ok...probably i have made a few posts with the same subject but to me player speed and corelation with accuracy...is key in how arcade or realistic a game is. After all there is a huge debate about the GR2 release in the xbox only because the speed of the characters has been significantly increased in relation with the first one.

Judging from the videos that i have see so far, i think the player movement...is realistic enough...but i haven't seen fp videos yet..and see how accurate you are.

Another thing that I liked was that each class will have different sprints..and also when ur sprinting gun is down...same thing as AA. What i don't know is what the fp view will be...and if you are allowed to shoot while sprinting.

Personally, judging from my small experience with fps games (mainly GR, RS, OFP, BHD, JO, AA) I think that AA got the balance right...and the speed of the players spot on.

Do you guys have any ideas in your mind...of how you want to model that?
For example...walking with ur sights up, running but not allowed to bring the sights up..and sprinting with no shooting at all..?

thanks

I agree wit u on most of that man, only thing I'v got that might want looking at is the runnin bit, as I'm fairly sure many SF guys are trained to run fairly fast while having the weapon hard to their shoulder and aiming down the sights. Maybe only allow the SF class this ability, and then limit how many guys can be SF in the same way we've tlked of limiting the Snipers?? Could that be done?

these are good ideas, ONLY, i think u should be able to fire your weapon while sprinting... EXCEPT, u cant aim down the gun for accuracy, its kinda just like spray and pray... for covering fire purposes... and if you shoot while sprinting the accuracy will be way off.

it's unrealistic though AntiHero, u simply cannot fire a rifle while sprinting, trying to hold it out to fire at a target while sprinting along just doesn't wrk.

I agree, no shooting when sprinting. And normal movement should be a jog as in AA. However, each class should be able to sprint the same speed, but some should run out of breath more quickly. IE the AR guy should get tired before the SF or Riflemen.

sprinting with a a 25kg Eryx missile on the back, doesnt permit you to sprint as fast as a rifle man.

Well how many people do the russians have to support a missle man anyway?

First of all it isnt a russian weapon, and in normal circomstances there is 1 loader and 1 gunner.

The whole 'run-n-gun' idea is somewhat befuddled. I think it's fairky safe to assume that not even the mos welltrained SF trooper will be able to sprint for very long distances with a full combat load. Jog, sure, sprint only far enough to reach some sort of cover (if there IS any cover at all :twisted :) .
So to the issue if firing while running. You should still be able to pull the trigger no matter what crazy stunt you pull. Hitting your intended target however, will be next to impossible.

I imagine that BF2 will hav some form of sprinting ability (, which yes, will most likely be for a limited period of time, and the point I was trying to make is that during this period, a rifleman is going to be holding the weapon pointed down at an angle diagonal to his body, and the rifle will sway with his arm movement has he sprints, as this is the most effiecent n comfortable way to sprint while holding a rifle. Sure, he can still pull the trigger, but he's liable to put a whole in his foot. It'd be simpler if it was just made that you cannot shoot while sprinting, and it'd probably help if the GUI interface reflected this, ie. shows the rifle pointed down when ur sprinting.

While running, some weapons would still be able to be held in a firing position, ie. M16/M4, pistol, however as u said, wether or not they'll hit wot they shoot at is a totally different matter. Though I believe SF soldiers are still able to maintain fairly good accuracy even while on the run, possibly wrong there, but I'm sure someone will point it out if I am :D .

If anyone wishes to see this, watch the Battlefield 2 E3 2004 Trailer, as this shows an SF soldier both sprinting with gun held low, and running with rifle butt still held at his shoulder. That trailer is why I'm pretty sure that there'll be a sprint ability in the game, though to what extent of cors I don't know.

BF2 does indeed have sprinting. They stated that in an interview.

you're thinking of running. it's possible to runa nd gun and be quite inaccurate, but if you've seen folks sprint. that's a fast speed. you cant possibly point a gun at anything. the only thing you could do is cradle it in your
arm.

imagine a guy sprinting, will he possibly be crazy enough to point a gun at soemthing? why would he point it at soemthing if he has 0.01 chance of hitting the intended target. it's dangerous to have your finger on the trigger while sprinting. it's not running or walking.

i understadn that you said the guy can sprint and fire at the same time. but you must understand if this is possible, folks will be seeing a lot of rounds going everywhere into team mates and whatnot.

In Battlefield 2 shooting and sprinting will be impossible as stated in the latest preview.
The sprint-option is connected to a key. When you push it, the player can run a lot quicker. All players have an energy quantity (stamina), which diminishes while sprinting. How fast you can sprint depends on the class you play. Light units are faster then heavier ones. While sprinting you can't use your weapons.

Sounds good, now you guys just have to adjust the speeds so they represent real life movements.
