My mic died
After 2 years of service, my
Plantronics 350 decided to kill the wires of my microphone. So no more Squadleading or Armor-driving for me in while. Now i'm left with the following decision: buy a cheap
seperate mic or buy a whole new
headset?

Why USB?
I have 4.1 audio...my backspeakers to my radio and my front speakers has a audio splitter to my PC speakers and to my headset (so i don't have to change cables every time i want sound on my speakers). Works fine for me (+ my USB slots are full i think)

i would go with buying a new headset bro , dont forget its alot better when you get the best voice quality when you play PR ! and just a small piece of advice dont buy a USB headset ! .
im currently Using Fatal1ty Headsets and they are the best headsets i have ever used , abit expensive tho so if your low on budget i wouldn't recommend it (price wise). you can still find good and cheap quality headsets on the Internet .

lol mate. A mic isn't a computer or something. For 20 bucks you should be able to get something that works just fine. For a bit more something good.

Don't get a mic on a stand like the one you linked to. I used to use one and unless you can position it right in front of your mouth it's a pain in the ***. So many times i would have to repeat myself because i wasn't close enough to the mic and squad mates couldn't hear me. Sure you can crank up the sensitivity, but then you'll be extremely loud if you ever get close to the mic. What i use and it works great, is my wireless xbox 360 headset. I had to buy a USB thing to connect it to the PC, but that wasn't much and now i can use my controllers too. I know microsoft also sells a PC version of the mic for about half the price (go figure) Only downside with them is they're designed like a bluetooth headset, so it's not ideal for listening to the audio. I prefer my speakers anyway.

Yay, I managed to set the wire in a way that it works again. But now it has some duct tape on the left ear

.
Temporarily fix I guess. Guess it will do until I got a new headset.
Trivia note: This will be my 5th headset...and they all die the same. First the mic, then the left ear.

What I did when my mic died from Koss headset was that I put my cheap (couple of euros) old headset around my neck and turned its mic in front of my mouth and still use the Koss on my ears for the audio. Seems to work quite nicely, even though it's not pretty looking... but who's looking anyways

Muhahahahahahaha!!!
I've done the same thing with my old headset, but now I use my Fatal1ty instead

I go through a lot of headsets, and when a mic fails I have a bunch of crappy old headsets with broken speakers that I can fall back on, so I do just that. Most of the time it's wear and tear of the cables that is the cause. Happens frequently with those inline volume knob thingies. If you pinpoint where the cable is failing, and can solder, you can often actually fix it... until it breaks again.

-I've got a simple Creative HS-300 that's lasted me 3 years without any problems.
EDIT: Apparently, they're very good. But they were so cheap.

I still need to buy me a usb headset because my macbook pro wont support the red connector from a regular headset.
NyteMyre: Is that an airsoft picture from you? Did you play in Schoten? You look like one of the guys we played with.
