Barrel Roll Animation

I'm sure we have all seen the barrel roll animation in game. Its when a player is strafing side ways and presses the prone key.
First, this is something soldiers would usually not do in a real life situation. The whole point to do a maneuver like that is to get in a firing position from the belly QUICK. In real life, if you do one of those it will only leave you disoriented and not able to shoot for a small amount of time, but can risk other things, possibly losing your weapon. Basically, its just not the ideal thing to do in most situations.
Second, the animation sometimes looks terrible in game. The player can be be slowly strafing, then going prone, making the animation trigger and making it look like the player is rolling in place.
what I'd like to suggest is a replacement, a much more common move.
Basically, if anyone has played the Socom series for the ps2 they would understand what I am saying.
All it is, is the player going down, putting his idle hand down to the ground while keeping his hand with the weapon pointed straight forward as he puts him self down to the ground.
Imagine it as like a one handed push up.

go to 2:10 and wait for the character to go prone.
Thats the concept, but I imagine the final product being more of a dive, as seen here:
