okay in poe 2 when a missle hits the ground it creates a creater idk ifyou can step in it but there is a crater. it also doesnt last long for like 5 seconds i wonder if its possible to do it in pr and make it last for like 10-15 min it could be used like a fox hole

For those who haven't seen In POE the crater doesn't actually dig into the ground as this in impossible in bf2, the POE ones only create the raised part of the crater around the edges but it still looks quite good.
I think that this would be a good addition to PR if the craters were made a little bigger and made so every explosion bigger that a grenade causes one.

Its not that the DEVs dont want to have explosion craters, its that craters and other destructable terrain are impossible with the BF2 engine. Remember, we are talking about a 5 year old game here.

i just dont think its been thought of =P
i mean, dose it provide temporary cover?
it might be interesting to see, but who knows. heck, anything that makes it less repeditive may help, but if you think about it, if arty gets droped somewhere, is the battle not mostly done their? (i have played more maps with jdam then arty, so i dont know how affective arty is currently)

They have no collision mesh, they can appear anywhere (on buildings etc) and they last for about a minute. They also use of networkable data so you'll most likely mess up the server with too much going on.

maybe because too many deployable objects can cause server crashes, or how it could look weird, for example if arty hit a tree wont that make a crater in a tree?

How bad do you want these craters in PR?

just something I wondered after reminiscing about the mod I played in the olden days; not something I really want but more like "it'd be kinda nice to have because I doubt adding craters is too hard"
if it's too hard then bleh *crawls back into hole*
It's the first time I have ever heard of adding that to PR. I don't think it would hit of an importance at the moment. If they were going to put it in I would still be more excited about the new faction's. Also you should have done this in suggestion's.

i think it might be out of place on some maps, becuase of all the different terrane tyypes per map (water, land, grass, street), if its all a dirt pile, might it not look weird, atleast on a street?

huh... but in PoE2 they worked fine, since not every single explosive created a crater, and if I'm not mistaken, I thought they did have collision mesh?
If the object has a collision mesh, and is dropped in the same way as a object is when placing deployable assets, you will have the same problem with the object "sliding" down hills untill they become still where the final static appears. Also, if hte hills long enough you could end up killing soldiers that are far away from the blast radius of the explosion, where the object slides down the hill and squishes him. Similar to when dropping FOB's.
Furthur more, I cannot see a great outcome when multiple shots are fired apon the same spot, crater mahem is all I can see. Also, IMO it would look very weird having same looking craters appear on all different surfaces, as there is no way a "object" dropping after and explosion can tell what surface its landing on.
The list goes on and on with things that can go wrong. For example another one, when and IED goes off. The object drops, but the vehicle is still alive. Object collides with tank, tank shoots off in random directions. NOT Realistic.
There is probably a reason why devs have said not to post anything on this. Probably Because they've all ready tried doing it!
