Ok, I have the basic grasp of using the map coordinates but have a questions on the way the keypad is numbered. Is it set up like this?
123
456
789
or
789
456
123
or are both completely wrong? lol thanks

I use the "numpad" version that's on your keyboard.
So:
789
456
123
Edit: there are numbers on the topleft corner of your minimap though. I believe it's the "numpad" version as well.

`1234567890-= along the top of your keyboard.
Kidding.

The grid numbers are actually there, in game, in the A1 grid, top left corner.

You can't disable the grid numbers, they're built into the map display. Keypad coordinates designate each of the 9 boxes in a grid square (for more precise reporting of enemy sightings, etc.), that correspond to the keys on the numpad on your keyboard.
For example, if someone says "ENEMY TANK A1 KP2", that means the enemy tank is in grid square A-1, in the box corresponding to the 2 on your numpad.

Really, we could all type "A12" instead of "A1kp2," but then half of PR players wouldn't understand what that means. I take the middle stance and use "A1k2."
