Hi,

i have never heard before, that countries like iraq, syria or so, use t-80 or t-90 tanks... these vehicles are to expensive... so they use old, but unbreakable t-72s. the t-72 has an great firepower, and is nowadays used in hundreds of different armys around the world... so please bring this tank on scene! 8)

Unbreakable, eh?

The M1A1's totally owned the Iraqi T-72's back in 1991

But I do think the T-72 is very appropriate for Project Reality

Agreed. I would rather see the T-72 being used by the "MEC" forces then a T-90. You'd make them weaker then the M1A2 but you would give them more.

I agree with you on some aspects. However it would be possible for Middle-East nations to afford T-90 tanks. India bought em, and they're not the most economically powerful country. Countries like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other western influenced countries in the mid-east are too damn wealthy.

If the T-72 is added. I hope the team adds several upgrades to the vehicle. For instance Russia is exporting ATGM munitions for the T-55 and up tanks. As displayed below.

Also, from Army-Technology.
UPGRADES

A number of upgrade packages are available for T-72 series tanks. Kharkov Machine Building Design Bureau (KMDB) of the Ukraine is offering the T-72MP with SAGEM SAVAN sights. They are also developing a version fitted with a Nato standard 120mm smoothbore gun and automatic loader.

Uralvagonzavod of Russia is offering a T-72M1 upgrade that includes new 1,000hp diesel engine, new smoothbore 125mm gun, new fire control system with Sosna-U stabilised day/night sights for gunner and commander and digital ballistic computer, satellite navigation system, explosive reactive armour package and the Arena countermeasures system.

The Czech Republic is upgrading 30 of its fleet of T-72M1 tanks to T-72CZ standard. The first was delivered in January 2004. The upgrade includes ERA, Galileo Avionica TURMS-T computerised fire control system and a new powerpack by NIMDA of Israel with Perkins CV12 engine rated at 1,000bhp and Allison automatic transmission. India is to upgrade 250 of its T-72M1 tanks with the Drawa-T thermal imaging fire control system from PCO of Poland. Deliveries are to be completed by 2004. ZTS Dubnica of Slovakia offer an upgrade for T-72 Moderna tanks.

In June 2002, The Polish company, Obrum signed a contract with Rheinmetall Landysysteme of Germany to co-operate on the modernisation of Polish Army T-72 tanks, using Leopard 2 technology.

A number of companies offer systems to upgrade the fire control system of T-72 series tanks with thermal imaging capability. These include: SATES from El-Op of Israel, MT-01 from Indra of Spain, TFCS3-72C from Fotona of Slovenia, Tiger from LIW of South Africa and Sanoet-2 from SAGEM of France.

Please no. Maybe after all the main modelling is done they could make these flavor items for map makers to use, but lets not have them waste any time on such things until then.

Also, I really don't understand why people want to remove T-90's and the like from MEC. MEC is fake, so why should we be forced to limit them based on the Real World?

I keep pointing that out and they are still warped.

All they want is to fight a weaker enemy (Like in real life).

Because it is a REALISM mod?

This is an exsample, they are mad.

A realisum mod at the scale of realisum Arikara wants would mean the war never happend.

I guess we are back to this...

Yes pence we want realism in the REALITY mod out of spite. Why can't a realistic story and scenario be placed rather then just saying "it is the way it is?"

We don't need to fight a weaker enemy, just one that is weaker per soldier. The MEC would get more tickets for fighting on the home front as well as more hardware.

Sometimes we need some tradeoff between reality and gameplay. I wouldn't find fun being slaughtered every time by people with a much more better equipment. Giving to MEC more modern and similar in performance to their western counterparts seems to me the best choice.

T-72s, especially with the upgrade packages available now, are still contenders. Part of the reason that a lot of forces with significant finances aren't purchasing the newer models is because of these upgrade packages. Here is another example of an upgrade package available for the T-72:
  • New 125 mm smoothbore gun with bore sighting system
    New fire-control system
    Thermal night sight
    Stabilisation system for main armament
    Installation of laser-guided missile system
12.7 mm anti-aircraft machine gun that can be aimed and fired under complete armour protection
Installation of explosive reactive armour to hull and turret
Installation of Shtora TShU1-7 jamming system
    Improved NBC system
Improved fire detection and suppression system
    New communications system
    More powerful 840 hp engine
    New suspension
The T-72S, the most modern of the export versions, is being license-produced in Iran. This has several of the improvements listed above.

They wouldn't be slaughtered though. The T-72's are more than capable of taking out a M1A2. Yes, the M1A2 has a clear advantage over one T-72, but I doubt it could take two on head to head. A T-72 who had the jump on an Abrams would also likely take it out if it was careful enough. I think having a 1 abram:1.5(rounding up) T-72'swould be fair.

Also keep in mind that some of the advantages and disadvantages of different weapons systems cannot be incorporated into the game, so more often than not it should come down to who has the better in-game "crew."

This isn't real life. Downgrading the MEC's MBT to a T-72 doesn't mean it will automatically lose to an M1A2 (in PR)

Apparently the DEV's are also split over the whole MEC and their equipment issue. Personally, I'd rather play with/against professional armies with modern equipment. I honestly think the balance tweaking otherwise would take way to long, and people would complain with the sides being mechanically different.

T-72 is modern

Myself and edie pointed out the upgrades for the T-72. On one note, I'm all for variety. The T-90 is already in game, modeled and skinned. The devs could probably add a few new features to the T-90, but other than that it should not be too much work into it. (Unless the team is going ground up).

I hate the 2 on 1 idea. As Edie said you can't inplement every single advantage that gives a certain vehicle "the edge". If the T-72 is added, I would like to see it with new upgrades and such which. This way your not playing with your steroetypical Gulf War T-72s.

Then it wouln't be reality would it?

even though tis is a reality mod you have to make a ballence between reality and gameplay, you arn't going to keep new players for very long if everyone only likes one of the sides. if you get hammered by an enemy with better weapons. even if you do have more tickets it might just work out as more times you have to die. the T-90 is ballenced and its fair to keep it that way. even if it is a little far fetched for the MEC to haveT-90s, Havocs and Su-27s its still a fair match to US forces. and after all most people arn't in this to live out going to war they are in this to have an enjoyable game, and when you loose every time it might not be like that.

It's a game, not real life. It's not like one tank is going to have a huge advantage over the other like IRL.

A soldier with an AK-47 can take on a soldier with an M-16.

Some people here are acting like the MEC would get raped if it had older weaponry than the U.S.

Personally, I think BMP-2s, Mi-24s, T-72s, and RPG-7s would be a helluva lot cooler to use in PR than the fancy **** that the MEC has now.
