Are you sure you should be posting this question around the Russian Forces forum?

I mean apart from what the WiPs the JSDF team has, it's still has very little progress.

Anyway. IMO if a map was made (And that why I think you made this topic in the first place) with a fight between Russia and the Japan, this would have to take place somewhere in the island of Hokkaido. After all that region is perfect for some nasty armored fighting. Also it would be the perfect zone for a possible russian invasion of Japan from the Kuril Islands which IRL are in dispute between the two nation. Japan launching an invasion over the Kurils is not exactly something likely to happen anytime soon as the JSDF is strickly defensive and would not be used to assert Japan's power over the islands in a "Falklands" re-make. ;)
Although... Russia invading Japan isn't exactly a high possibility. Russia's got much more important business to do in real life that invading Japan.
But hell... it's freacking game. Who cares? We could as well make it over the Kurils after all :) Kuril Islands dispute - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anyway... The idea I have for a Japan vs Russia map would be set in Hokkaido as I mentioned before. It'd be something like Kashan desert but with higher and more extensive mountains and not so desert-based. This would allow both factions to deploy a large variety of assets (Mainly armor). Put a couple of small cities or villages and then you're set.

Of course you would need first the japanese statics for a map based in Japan ;)

Not sure what the russians feel about this idea. Must be tiring getting your country being labeled as an agressor state. :-P
So I guess the idea of a fight over the Kurils rather than Russia invading Japan is gonna be more attractive. After all... who can resist to a nice fight nearby a Volcano ;)

Here are some areas in Hokkaido that looked good in Google Earth. For some reason you cant search for the town names but the district works.

Wow, that first picture, Rishiri District looks exactly like Sharqui Peninsula.

Hey you're right. Would be perfect scenario for a Sharqui peninsula "Japanese style" re-make.

Its Cool, maybe the Russians landed early in the day, capturing the City and trying to keep going but the Japanese Army was Already there.

So it, who is the attacker and who the defender?

the only 'formidable' reason for russians to invade japan are tariffs that were raised by mordor government for foreign cars imported into russia. but that would be only far east military district fighting japan, troops from Barad-dur would be sent to prevent such initiative.

It could be counterstrike after attempt of Japanese invasion on those islands)
There actually should be map with Japan attacking cause that makes sense.

I don't see how Oo

But politics aside, I'd love to see the Russia-Japan sea war in a modern rematch. And seeing JSDF against somebody else than North Korea or China would be very good! ;-)

If you don't know how they could transport troops, Navy part of JSDF has nice amphibious capability: 4 LCUs, 3 LSTs, 6 LCACs also.

Russian military presense on those islands isn't something impossible to defeat for JSDF. Other thing is when angry Russians will come to see who's so brave to tackle the bear)

After some thought. I think that both Russia invading Japan or Japan invading the Kurils are both as highly unlikely to happen IRL. Russia is not gonna invade Japan out of some expansionistic desire (After all it's already the largest country in the world) and Japan would never re-take the Kurils with its current strict self-defence policy. So none of both options makes "sense".

Ergo I think we should go for both scenarios :-P without caring too much for the background story. A map based in the Kurils and another in Hokkaido would be nice. After all it's purely a game. ;)

Agreed. Realistic gameplay rather than realistic scenarios.
And if you absolutely need a story it could be Russia supporting the Chinese (thinking about the SCO) in a war against Japan. You already have plans of putting JSDF against PLA, right?
