The Chinook

Myself and my fellow devs have had many PMs, about this, topics and posts coming up all over the forums about this so this is going to be my last attempt to explain the situation of the Chinook to you guys who are a little gray in that area.

Many of you saw this update about the Chinook in this news post here: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f12-pr ... media.html

I will quote from it:
'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;844884']-Royal Air Force Chinook HC2
Planning ahead for future releases, we have been creating the RAF Chinook HC2 for the British Forces. The Chinook is the life blood of the British Army currently in Afghanistan; transporting and re-supplying ground forces over large areas of desert in a quick and effective manner. To that end, we can't wait to see this flying around on [R-DEV]Dr Rank's 'Sangin' in the not too distance future. The model and texture are both the work of [R-DEV]Stigger, who is putting a lot of hard work into the Chinook, which as you can see is really taking shape!

If you look in that post, we did not say anything about it coming out in v0.85, and we did say "planning ahead for future releases" where before that was a bit about v0.85's progress which would indicate that its not being planned for v0.85, we also said it would be released with Sangin. We also never said Sangin would make v0.85 or any release to what it would be in. Note in the new v0.85 update posted yesterday Sangin is not on the list of the new maps.

If you also look down to the Lynx part of the update, you will also note that we did not say it was going to be in v0.85, this was simply because we did not know if we could get it exported in the time frame, Hence why we never release dates unless we are pretty damn sure we can make them. This is simply because many of you guys will simply flip out and feel it a brake of trust. I mean, some of you guys are confused about the Chinook and your already bombarding us with PMs and posts/topics about "why isn't it in v0.85!!!!"

So I will say this for the last time.

The Chinook and Sangin will be released when they are ready to be released and not before

When they are ready, we will tell you they are ready. At the moment, they are both not ready. The Chinook still needs to be exported and coded and Sangin has a long way to go before its finished, which is very common for a detailed 4km squared map. We only have so many exporters on the team and they can only work on so many projects at once, and even if we did export the Chinook, that would mean we would have not had the Lynx done and the Lynx fits onto more PR maps than the Chinook dose at this moment in time.

I hate to make these topics but some of you guys just overload us with questions etc. Thank you to the members who understood this and did not bombard us with questions etc.

Cheers, Rhino.

Will the chinook be able to have more than 8 slots?

:D but serious question, as a mod team do you think its worthwhile making a whole asset just for one map if you already have a working placeholder? (merlin) or are there big big plans for this vehicle?

We will surely use it on more than one map, even when its released for example I can see the Chinook fitting pretty well on Qinling Infantry layer where transport choppers are a key role on it, As well as it fitting on Kashan and future US Army and other faction maps. We also have EoD2 and many other BSS Mods exspressing there intreast in the Chinook, which we plan to allow them to use it after all the help they have given us, with exporting the Lynx and will be exporting the Chinook etc.

Again, think of the Chinook as a flying truck, where its biggest role is logistics as well as transport. that has the proportional of setting up a firebase on a LZ that will spawn off many more players than just 8.

^ cool :) I like the idea of it appearing elsewhere in existing maps. Asymmetry = win.

Besides, the A-10, froggy, F-16, and mig are all only on Kashan, but they still own :p

I thought the chinook would've made it for 0.85. Oh well, it'll be worth while when it does come out.

Wait... What? I was replying to Rudd asking if it was worth it to implement the Chinook just for one map, and I said that those jets were only used on one map (One game mode and size even), but they still own enough to be ingame.

ah I see, thought you meant that it wouldn't be effective on Kashan as there are jets etc about :p

It would be awesome to had more maps whit this type of asset, an other map whit fully air capability would be great. US Military didnot go anywhere whitout air support =P

Its not a bug, they just reduce the camera speed, the rotor is turning.

Personally I think its overrated due to hardcoded limitations on the amount of passengers, though if it drops two logistic crates that could be interesting for gameplay ( asymmetrical balance anyone? )
