[Help] with my Portable Project!

Hi there,

I don't know if any of you lot are in the same position as me but my computer is back home and I am at University in Scotland and in my free time I listen to the Radio lol!!!!
This has drawn the line, the computers at uni are more than capable of handling BF2.
The Specs:

Core 2 Duo (2.4ghz)
2Gb 667mhz
7300GS
This has made me motivated to trying to get BF2 to work on the computers by making it portable on a DVD or external USB drive.

The idea is to try and get all the system files (DDLs etc) that are needed by BF2 into the one folder. This folder will then be placed on a portable drive. The BF2 disk inserted in the DVD drive and the game run from the portable device.

Why?

Well the University computers are well locked down, Write and read access to C: drive is prohibited and without Admin privileges the game would not install.

However!

I installed the game on my friends PC and copied the files onto a disk then took it to the Computing lab at first I kept getting an error "d3dx9_25.dll" not available.
This was because the game could not get access to the C: drive, so I extracted these two DirectX9 cab files and placed them in the directory of BF2.

Apr2005_d3dx9_25.cab
Feb2005_d3dx9_24.cab

It worked (well partly)!!!

I managed to get Singleplayer to work well without any hiccups!
However when I try to join a multiplayer server the game abruptly crashes.
This leads me to conclude that there are more files needed from the System32folder for Multiplayer to work.

Could this be possible?

So I was wondering if the modders who have a vast expertise in this game could tell me what files BF2 needs to access from Windows, so I can copy them into the directory where it should hopefully work.

Oh the OS is XP proffessional Sp3.

Thanks for your time!

I don't think you'll be able to play on PunkBuster-enabled servers with this method, because PunkBuster requires administrator priveliges and your university account is a limited user account.

haha, great stuff man :D
i have sweet memories about school when we managed to log in to a teacher's account and install CS and warcraft III and played it with about 10-15 people in every free minute :D

I doubt that playing online will work but LAN should work if you disable PB maybe.

Yeah, I think booting another OS from a portable hard drive with BF2 installed would be your best bet at doing it
