The Insurgent #3 carries the AK-74 rifle and
two molotov cocktails
The Insurgent #4 carries the AK-47 rifle and
two molotov cocktails

Quoted from the PR Manual on insurgent kits, they both have different visuals just I don't feel like hosting the two tiny images when you can just check page 14 of the manual.

I to have no clue what the difference is, and would like to know if anyone has infmormation :? ??:

Differend caliber. I think 47 (7,62x39 mm) is more effective but 74 (5.45 mm) has more accuracy.

a 5.45 is much more effective... the 7,62 will pass trought, the 5.45 will spin into you're body.

The main difference with the two rifles is that the Ak-47 fires 7.62 rounds and the Ak-74 fires 5.45 rounds.

Here's some information on the two of them

Kalashnikov AK-47

Modern Firearms - Kalashnikov AK-47 AKM Assault Rifle

Kalashnikov AK-74

Modern Firearms - Kalashnikov AK-74, AKS-74 and AK-74M assault rifles

AK47 - More damage, more recoil, looks more badass.

AK74 - Less damage, but also less recoil.

(this is what I think - havn't played with them yet)

The short one is an AKS-74U, AK-74 is just as big as the original 47.

Game wise, the 47 has more recoil and higher damage, and the 74 has lower recoil and lower damage. Sights are also a little different.

The 47 is actually superior for the close-range fighting the Insurgent team is supposed to be doing.

The AK-74 has a longer barrel, lighter weight, and smaller round than the AK-47, but has better handling, less recoil, and superior accuracy.

Biggest difference is the year they were made in. 1974 vs 1947.

In terms of appearance the muzzle, barrel, bad-*** magnitude, and magazine are considerably different.

As you can clearly see, the 74', for some reason, has lost the badassness of the 47', but the AK74m < to some extent, AK101, 103, 104, 105, 107, and AEK 971/973 have brought the badassness back, thank god

What does the year have to do with gameplay?

The biggest difference is caliber; the AK-47 does more damage per round with slightly higher recoil, while the AK-74 does less damage with less recoil and, perhaps, more accuracy.

Even then, the accuracy difference seems to be minuscule at reasonable Insurgent ranges - if you know to shoot, you can hit what you need to hit with the AK-47, and you'll need less hits to kill.

All of this is in PR terms, of course.

as a general guide, AK-74 for longer ranges, AK-47 for when you can see the whites of their eyes!! :D

Well, generally, in my experience, when there is a 27 year difference between guns made by the same people, they generally get more combat effective. He asked what the differences were, and I told him.
