there is a reason why they give you two types of ammunition, breaching and buckshot.

I tried using the Saiga-12 today at a distance of 5 meters.

It didn't work out so well.

And MP5Punk, conventional factions only get slugshot. Only the Insurgent faction has buckshot.

Thats the reason they give an assualt rifle. Normal armies dont really use buckshot. Hint Hint "Realism Applied"

The shotgun found in the Rifleman Specialist kit is only useful for breaching locked doors/gates.

You may get some luck from the slugshot shotguns, but you're better off using your primary weapon as you're gonna be - stapped for ammo, and fighting recoil when using the shotgun.

You can kill people with it as long as they are less than 10m from you.

Actually it kills only your teamates, and in a weird way... through metal. Ive done accidental teamkills by shooting it at abuilding with a friendly inside, round went through and killed teamate :p

I actually got killed by the breaching shotgun once on Archer.

The fact is I was already roughed up by a burst from an M16, but still :p

The insurgent shotgun has the best sound in the game.

Try aiming at teamate at 30-40 meters and shoot just for fun. He will die surprisingly often. Useless against enemy's.

On the topic of shotguns, I really like the spread on the buckshot.

Most games have a crazy spread for the shot - like you cover the side of a house from ten metres. This simply isn't true, you still need to aim a shotgun as buckshot will still pattern inside a dinner plate in the longest room in your house. Fair enough, it will spread and slow down a lot more after a realatively short distance so is a poor weapon for firing down a street, but hey, horses for courses. I guess the hardest thing is how do you model the pellets (shot) fairly so that they don't behave like a dozen pistol rounds fired once.
