Discussion - Do the Chinese forces (PLA) have too much vannilla kit?

I only started realising this by playing Quin Ling a lot and I noticed that the chinese have no custom vehicles other than command trucks. Whilst the MEC have received new models and totally new vehicles (T-72, AA BRDM, BMP-3, etc.), it seems nothing new has been given to the chinese, with the effect that they look really crappy and cheap.

So do you think that the Chinese have been left in the cold a bit? Discuss.

They are supposed to be working on a VN3 to replace the Nanjing truck/car, and a ZTZ-99 (awesome tank btw) to replace the Type 98, which I heard kinda sucks. Haven't heard how much progress is being made though. Infantry however has come a long way since vanilla. Started with new rifle series, and now we have new camo and faces I think.

Have the vanilla models been reskinned? I had a look and I don't think they have, it just seems like all the insane amount of work going into the NATO and now MEC factions PLA are being left in the dust.

As you noticed MEC got a bunch of new toys in .85 maybe they will work on the PLA for .9

They are totally different, look closer, though I don't think you need to look very close. The vanilla models had an old camo patter, with the developers adding a lot of red in case anybody didn't know Chinese were communists. In the early versions of PR, they removed a lot of red patches and clothing. And as least in .8 they got their modern woodland digital camo uniforms.

It takes time to make all those models. I believe that DEVs do care about opfor factions and those wont be left behind.

What is true is that in 0.85 the fun-factor of playing PLA has decreased. Theres actually only Qwai where you can feel the epic battles.

Thats true, but those were community projects - which basically means that it takes twice more time to implement them into PR.

The nades and boat will also be able to be used for the PLAGF. HZ is working hard on the armour, MD is doing well on the boat (hull is almost finished, outboard coming along nicely).

Only the US and brand new factions will have similar amounts of work put into them, once the PLA have two factions.

Red - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I know red is a traditional Chinese color, but it was not used in any recent uniforms like in vBF2. They had red cuffs, red shirts underneath their camo, and bright red stars all over their helmets and hats. IIRC they only use red stars on vehicles, at least since the 80's.

If there still used today and we have a working model why should they remake them?

The PLA have many custom hand weapons but vehicle wise as of yet they have pretty much none, but in time that will change ;)

how quickly and how well that change will be will depend on a few things thou which is mainly down to eggman and UK_Force to decide...

I could give you a big list on things we are planning for the PLA but I wont, and I asked to have my tags removed again since I had not finished my brake.

Sure, just remember, this is coming out of your pay :p

But really, the PLA haven't had much attention lately, but I expect that between 0.9 and 0.95 they will be getting many new assets. Their MBT and scout car for example are WIPs, and the PLAN seem to be making very good headway. Hopefully they will become a faction doing some of the assaulting, and not just the defending.

EDIT: FFS, Scot, stop it with the lolcats, you've lolled me hard enough last night. :D

That ZTZ-99 looks epique' and that VN3 looks like something from the MGS series. But hey, it will be great to replace that amazingly horrible beaner-mobile of a nanjing! And the camo was a not so far back suprise, so i think they've been well supplemented.

EDIT: Scot....you just killed me

i think the PLA have come a long way from vanilla. as far as the vehicles go, well the vanilla apc probably couldnt be improved a whole lot, ive seen pictures of that apc in real life and the vanilla model looks damn near perfect. the main battle tank, well yeah atleast someone is working on the new one. i think part of the reason you havent seen alot of change for the pla is because, in all honesty, i think EA/DICE did a damn good job on them from the beginning. i know thats hard to believe, but i mean look at the player models, look at the vehicles they made. its tough to improve upon those.
