Locked Squads?

ok, I dont usually suggest stuff on the main forums, lack of being arsed about any given subject is the main reason
So ive had a scout round, cant find any posts on this but why do we still have the lock squads function available? It hampers teamwork and if somebody is really that anoying then you can just kick them from the squad?
Now I understand it may cause issues as they might keep coming back into the squad and annoying you, but to be honest i've noticed a lot in teh last 2 builds of PR that its starting to get very elitest, and thats not good for teamwork, which in my opinion is what PR is striving for, not uber leet realism...
Now so many times you go onto a server and they have 3 or 4 asset squads locked with like 2 guys in them, and on maps like kashan thats stupid and so easy to fix surely?
now would their not be a way of implimenting the kicker or changing it to like a 5 minuts ban from squad or something?
Dont flame me if its already been suggested, I have used teh search function, but you know what forums are like and also people inability to tag their posts
Good day chaps

This function still exists so that recon squads, clan squads, Cobra squads, Apache squads and other (insert specialist asset here) can do their work without being bothered by noobs, lonewolfs or smacktards spamming the voip channels.

IMO The Squad locking still has a useful prupose.
It does allow you to control the 'Zerg' Join the first open Squad Rush
at the start of the round. It's nice to be able to invite players that
you had a good previous round with etc.
I sometimes do this but then ALWAYS unlock the squad as soon as
things have settled down.
We advocate a 'No Locked Squads' policy on our server, to promote
a more open friendly approach to new players.
I hate it when you join a server and there are 1 or 2 FULL Inf Squads
and 4 or 5 LOCKED 'Specialist' Squads. So my options are??
Start my own 1 man squad (On a nearly full server!)
Rather than;
Join one of the aforementioned 'Specialist Squads' and
offer assistance OR is they don't want my direct help (Communication is King) It will still enable me to pick up other Specialist Kits
and offer specialist assistance elsewhere.
Furthermore, if I am running a Helo Transport Squad I make
sure that I explain to ALL that join that I will NOT be leading as a conventional SL and unless they are going to pilot a chopper that they may wish to;
1. Do their own thing whilst remaining in the squad.
2. Become Squad Leader of my Squad
3. Join another Squad more suited to their wish
I never kick people because they are not neccessarily required
or key to the squad at that time. Who knows in the future you
may find that the situation is reversed!
We were ALL noobs once! And the instances of people Spamming VOIP
are few and far between.
Locking still has it's use, but should be used sparingly.

The reason I think locking is good is because maybe you are running a cas squad or an armour squad with 3 people for example, and some guy joins.
Now this guy might be a rare one who wants to go spot aswell or be an engineer/truck driver but maybe he doesn´t.
So now you have someone who could be doing well in an infantry squad messing about in yours doing nothing. Because the SL is not leading a proper squad, he is spotting or doing armour, therefore its a waste of a guy joining the squad because he could be more useful in another.

indeed, but chances are that guy who joined actually wanted a sniper kit... or is new and thinks this is proper squad for him and mongs at mainbase whistle his squad is doing other stuff... thinks PR is shit ,then comes complain on forums about it.

or just comes and complains about the lack of infantry squads and the masses of specialist, locked squads/....
Now what would you rather do, maybe get that engineer in your squad, and maybe kick the guy who is just an idiot, or have the squad locked, and then the guy with no squad just leaves the server? Now yes, atm keep it as server rules state, but if their was no choice then maybe it might open this 'Teambased' game back up a bit. But to just right people off because they may be n00bs is a stupid attitude to take, because its upto the old crowed to teach people how to play the game, and it makes me laugh how i see more teamwork on vanilla servers now which is quite worrying, try becoming a leader/teacher, not a bully/elitest n0b

While I agree with this, if it is between getting a random guy in my chopper, or someone I know, its going to be someone I know. Yeah, I would love to teach the new guys but when my PR playing time is limited to only 2 days, and not a big amount each day, its just not worth my time wasting for 20 minutes.

It comes down to professional gaming practices in the end.
There is always going to be some n00b that joins your squad and really sucks at PR.
Introducing a kick system will just aggravate good players that get kicked for something stupid, like crashing the helicopter because of an over-ping or glitch, or they sneezed on their keyboard yeah?
If a squad is locked cause its a clan gathering, coolies, but locking shouldn't really be used otherwise.
For example, when I used to run a LAN cafe, the BF2 Admin team (section17) would lock their squad because it confused the hell out of people if normal players were on the admin team
other then the admin's, we didn't permit squad locking unless it was a clan, or a group of friends who we're physically inside the cafe together.

I try not to lock my squad unless my clan is on and I want them in, or if I get some smacktards that dont get the point that I am the squad leader. The other night for example on Karbala I had several folks join my squad, I would tell them where to spawn and they would spawn on the opposite side of the map. I would tell them again, they do it again and then I kick them. Rinse and repeat for about 5 times, meanwhile I get killed it seems everytime I have to go into the squad controls.
Finally I figured they were just messing around and could do that in a squad of their own and locked. Not the most friendly thing to do, but my squadmates that were doing their job and I was being hampered by folks not listening to orders.

It is needed if you want to play with buddies, do recon, drive a tank, etc.

not at all, we play all the time, you have an annoyance you kick him, if your buddy comes on, you ask for someone to leave, 9 times out of 10 they do, if not you kick someone, locked squads are more annoying than kicking from....
was just a thought anyway, obviously not the reception I hoped for but the masses will always provale

Exactly, that's what I was referring to in regards to 'professional' gaming.
If someone asks you to leave, you leave, end of story

When reserving a slot for a mate
or when using LBs and hummers
these are the times I use lock
I find lock helps the game, but admins need to make sure there are avaliable squad slots for players.
Strong admining is the answer, but I understand the elitism view.

On our server our rule is Squad locking is limited to the beginning of the map so squads can get their invites out and set up the squads. Once set we ask that you unlock. Locking is also permitted for asset squads. However we'd like to see a 6 man tank squad rather then 3 separate locked tank squads. If your asked to unlock or combine squads your required to do so. We find this method to work better as far as teamwork because you have set squads doing what they should be doing.
