How do you use trip flares?

Well I cant figure out how to use trip flares. I couldnt in 0.8 either.
Help please. Tell me how to use trip flares.

you have to laydown to use them

are you talking about how to deploy them? or what sets them off? like chris said, you have to lay down to deploy it. then someone has to walk through the wire to set it off.
