I have a small question up for geneal discussion
Why does no one use the Transport chopper's gun at all I mean yes its supposed to be for defense for bogeys in the air but who says that it can't also help keep the enemeis head down while a squad is moving forward or have a squad call in a fly by to see just how many bullets those enemies who just came out of cover can absorb
I mean sure if your standing still some lucky rpg can tag you and sure if you don't pay attention to the air around you, you can not use the guns to fend off attack choppers but isn't that what PR is about taking chances

Because people cannot put 2 and 2 together and realize that the transport chopper is not just a transport, it's also a flying .50 caliber MG platform. There was one time on Quinling (infantry) that I had my squadmate circle an enemy controlled hill in the Chinese chopper so I could rape them with the gun. Let's just say a lot of lives were lost that day, and mine wasn't one of them.

Brings back memories from Jabal where people took over the minigun seat and nail down the shooting button all the way until beaches

Still happens pretty much, maybe topp is fairly new player

unfortunately, the guns have poor hit registration and are really inaccurate while moving. It can work when you actively fly it as a gun platform, but if you are transporting, its meager.

Nah you just need to have a good communication with your gunner/pilot, the other day i was playing in Kashan Desert (MEC side) and we defended South Village against an infantry squad only by hovering / flying around SV, my .50 cal gunner did a good job taking out the hole squad....then we got hit by a rocket

ah good old times... kashan 16. 3 guys in a chopper:
1. pilot
2. gunner
3. spotter (squadleader)
hovering in 300-400m so nothing can hit us (except AAs >.<). The squadleaders is marking infantry with his soflam and the gunner just sprays at the attack marker. pretty effective

This is also upgradeable with a h-at und an AA.
Well but this only works on maps like kashan 16...
Who needs these apaches!? I DO NOT!

On Kashan Desert Me and a gunner took an MI-17 and I circled their transport trucks while he shot them up.

lol on kashan, my squad was wandering in the middle of the desert when an mi17 attaks us. luckily the gunner was total ****. we shot at the thing with m4's for about 5 minutes and the thing eventually caught fire and crashed LOL.

So please, only use the transports as gun platforms if you're competent (which many people think they are but aren't).
Or as supporting role to troops you just dropped off.

I've used the helicopter as a gun platform before. There are really only two effective ways to do it: far away with use of markers or real low behind cover with a very narrow field of return fire.

Well
A transport helicopter can be used very effectively if there is a squad that owns the helicopter..
Because, If you happen to be a door gunner, USE YOUR TRACERS as a way to aim instead of firing off into a random volley of bullets...
Although, If used effectively, A transport helicopter can be a very good asset in maps where its an urban environment during drops to provide suppression fire.
By own, I mean they have the whole squad in the helicopter, so there is better communication.
