Best bug ever ?

My computer has broken (video card) and I decidded to buy a new one. With a strong rig, I set the graphics at the max. At the Anti-Alising, I've put 2x.

At Fallujah, I got 40 fps looking at the downtown direction from the US main. I tought "I'll push it futher" and at the configurations I changed the AA to 8x.

SURPRISE !

I had a better fps count ! I'm I'm not alone, I've told 2 friends and they've done the same, with better results in game too.

So, I created this thread to ask people to do the same and see if they have the same result or we were just lucky.

I've heard somewhere that higher graphics setting give a better FPS for some games. And sometimes better graphic cards aren't good for older games.

I attempted this, but didn't find a miracle boost in FPS with Nvidia laptop card.

That's weird, you'd thought more AA = less FPS due the load on the cpu and gpu.

Interesting. I virtually see no difference between 2xAA and 8xAA (in fact, there's a slight FPS increase in 8xAA) - May as well play with it at 8 then! =)

Actually juniper you can see a slight slight change on the edges of the objects.
Look at the poles, they appear somewhat not like straight lines on 2AA, but 8AA its perfectly fine.

But you can barely see the difference, lol,but better is better!!

You guys change this feature in game options right? Not on the Nvidia settings?

what if you have AA on 4x?

its caused by driveroptimications which let the 8x aa focus one the edges where its really needed, while the 2x aa on NV cards is used in a simplier way, which can be slower in really high resolutions (on lower res 2x will be faster)

Will try this with my laptop 8600M GS (laptop) - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU [email protected] - 2.00 Go DDR2 - Windows Vista 32bits. I'll repost once tested optimal settings.
I know I had 8x AA but wasn't sure if it was a good idea so didn't use it. (the laptop tends to overheat very quickly so I prefer to play on my main computer rather than this)

Never tried 0.85 on my laptop actually... might be worth it! :-)

Just gonna take it from the beginning:

FPS stands for Frames Per Second. Pretty much the higher this number is, the faster the game flows, but up to about 60 FPS the human eye wont notice a difference anyway. But anyway, to make your FPS higher, generally it means lower setting as this is easier for your PC to run = smoother gameplay, worse graphics, as less stress on the system.

But in this case, according to a few people, raising Anti aliiasing to x8 makes your game run faster, which is pretty crazy, which is why people are confused :)

Hope that helps :)
