I don't know what sounds you use or how you create them, but I can recommend realistic sounds over at
Soundsnap.com: High Quality Sound Effects and Loops
Example:
Distant Helicopter.mp3 (234.69 KB)

Uh...
I think PR's sounds are fine and that site doesnt have sounds for all the vehicles and weapons for PR
You couldnt even use the distant helicopter sound because then you wouldnt have heli sounding like it should..

Erm... I'll let Jaymz or Sofad deal with this. Needless to say, the team is generally of the opinion that the sounds in PR are of a
very high quality that isn't about to be bettered by that site. That example you posted sounded tinny and horrible, to be quite honest

Sorry if this is a bit OT, but that is exactly the sound that precedes a flashback in any film about Vietnam vets.

You imagine the helicopter in the air and jungle beneath.
Nevertheless there are good sounds in there.
The sounds in PR are good probably one of the best out there, yet they still sound a bit of general game sounds, you still don't feel that wow realistic feeling.
Although that is not the meaning, if it sounded just like IRL it wouldn't feel just right for a game, that's why you need to tweak sounds.

There is allot of good weapon sounds on there maybe you should actually look before saying its **** quality.
Search for m4a2 m16, shotgun, etc allot of the sounds are actually good quality and I assume they should be good for sampling they have everything from sounds of burst fire to single shot to fully auto, and sounds of bolt clearing changing clips etc, IMO they sound allot better and more realistic than the PR sounds even better quality no offense to the original PR sounds which are nice but far from realistic.
shit they even have dry fire, safety catch, slide clearing sounds, although some weapon sounds are not even there like one of the mods said.
Search for m16,m4a2,Mini gun(for the black hawk), m249, Beretta 9mm (doesn't sound like a cap gun in real life?!), shotguns, Also search for bullet impact there is a **** load of impact sounds for all kinds of stuff it would make it allot easier to know if a bullet hit near you or 10 feet away since its pretty hard to tell unless you are being hit or suppressed.
I know there is a 99.9% chance that most of the PR mod team won't even look at the site but try it.

It's completely up to the devs if they wanna change any sounds but i think these are alot more realistic than others.

the m16 and m249 sounds are probably the best sounding imagine hearing 15 of those m16s firing at the same time with the m249 in the background

Yea, I liked the M249 and the Minigun sound but some of the others weren't so great.

I think this website could be a good source really..
Alot of distance sounds and such, PR would give a tottal new feel i think with even better sounds.
Upto the devs though.

Compare this two, huge difference:
Chopper INT start to speed take off (interior perspective)
Chopper INT start to speed take off | Soundsnap
Chopper INT start to speed take off - PR
Project Reality: Operation Phail - Xfire Video
Keep in mind that in PR it's more the sound you hear outside the chopper than you sit inside.
Also it's the same sound when you are grounded as when you lift, there is no power up in the sound and engine.
