Vertical Forward Grips.

For the M16A4 and M4.
In more than half of the pictures I've seen of US soldiers someone is using a vert grip, and why shouldn't they? It is a very useful addition to your weapon.
I think we should get them in the game, and they should give better recoil control.

In my opinion the US weapons should be better than the MEC weapons or the Insurgent/Taliban weapons because well, it's realistic.
But if balance is a big issue then maybe just give it to the basic kits, gives people an incentive for using them, rather than just going for a limited kit you won't use because it has the same things the rifleman kits have but an AT-4 instead of grenades.

What effect would this have on the in-game performance & handling of the weapons? Adding grips would require a full re-model and re-skin, and is a lot of work, and probably not worth it without an in-game change.

Only depends what aspect. AK's have far more stopping power than the M16 if I remember correctly. M16 is a lot more accurate than the AK

lol actually they can be added to every weapon without a remodelling, but still it would be senceless

I would assume it would minimise recoil?

Wouldn't add anything to the gameplay and would take a lot of time.

Vertical foregrips have been suggested before, so this thread will be locked. In game they'd just be cosmetic for the most part. In real life they're very ergonomic, can give you better control of the weapon, and some people can even bring their weapon to bear faster with them (it depends on the shooter, from what I understand), and some models also house bipods.
