[Vehicle Model] Mercedes W123 [WIP]

OK, I reached the conclusion that if I want all the custom statics I need for my map, then I need to make them myself :-(
To get myself back into it, Ive decided to model a Mercedes W123. They were produced between 1976 to 1985, and there were several variants. Ive had this on my mind for almost a year now, and the original idea was to make a drivable version.

Im just going to making a static version for now, but it will give me a chance to get to know the lines of the car, so maybe at some point in the future I will make a drivable version. ( this would be far more work than making a static version )

Image

Im also learning how to texture and skin at the moment, so I plan to make two skins for it - a plain version, and a taxi version ( with separate taxi sign model ontop )

I aim to keep the polys as low as possible, and this will make life easier for me too :D
Hopefully Ill be able to produce something by the end of the week. If it takes any longer, then Ill have to move onto the statics that I actually need :D

This brings me to another thing: We need more enterable civilian cars. It's too unrealistic to have just one type of car for insurgents.

Good luck!

this will be awesome, because i believe that the middle east is just littered with these cars and so it would make for some good statics on the middle eastern maps

yea middle eastern people seem to love these type of cars. I see them drive those things down here in the netherlands a lot as well! :o

Great that you are modeling this!

YAY! Mercedes W123!

This should be interesting and stylish. Good luck with this.

PS: I can't remember very well, but I think my grandfather had exactly that model in yellow before he replaced it with a a newer car.

Heres where Im at now:

Im pretty happy with the progress. The front was a nightmare, and I still cant get the front indicators right :/. The main things left to be done, are the rest of the interior, and then I need to optimise it. It should come in under 2000 polys when complete :D

wow, looks good. The grill on the front tho, it needs to be 3 small bars, 1 big, 3 small, etc. Looks too flat right now, other then that it looks great.

Its kind of temporary at the moment. As you can see in the pictures on the first post, there's different versions. The one that you describe is the one that Ill go for probably, but Im not sure weather or not to model it, or do it with a texture to keep the polys down.

I'd suggest modeling the big bars and leave a space between to texture the smaller ones. If you look at the first pic, they really stick out, and the smaller ones are rather flat.

Sorry to nitpick, i know it's a WIP :)

Very nice work, only thing I would say is on the front, the grill especially, you might want to just make it flat as the texture can take care of that, maybe the headlights are a little high on the poly count also. Other than that its great! modelling the front bonnet looks like a tricky one, good stuff.

Also post a wire frame.
