Is it possible to get some flechette rockets on the attack helicopters. Basically in the front of the rocket before it impacts the nose breaks open and a bunch on metal darts or metal pieces come out and spread kind of like a cluster bomb but in a rocket mode.
The M255E1 flechette warhead, which contains approximately 1,180 sixty-grain hardened steel flechettes, is in limited production. It has possible air-to-air as well as air-to-ground application. The M255E1 is designed for use with the M439 fuze.

I imagine this would run in to teh same problem as the grenade shrapnel idea, so many objects spawning = lag for the server

Well I imagine at that speed that the shrapnel wouldn't be visible. What if it's like switching rounds on armored vehicles? We could then make it so that when the missile impacts or rather, explodes midair, the shrapnel comes out, but isn't visible, or is covered by smoke, but within the blast radius, one still feels damage.

I think these are still objects that the server has to synch with all the current players, which causes the lag, not some kind of FPS lag

No? Not many used. Not realistic?

Yes it is realistic, just because it is not used as much as the hydras dosent mean its not realistic, read before you post, it was used in 2007 in Afghanistan with the British.

The M1A2 Abrams has a shotgun shell it can fire, and the AH-64D Apache Longbow has both the bullets it fires from the 30mm are shrapnel and the rockets it fires (75mm) are shrapnel. What would the point of having it on a jet be? An Apache can stay still, and the Tank can hit things which are in cover.

It still doesn't mean that it should be used in the game.. Its rare to see these..

honestly how much differnet would these look and act in the game compared to the hydras we already have? i mean the explosion from the hydras i think is plenty lethal enough to use on infantry i cant imagine this would be much different. i dont think you would see the flechettes, they probably travel too fast. its a good idea dont get me wrong, but i think it wouldnt even be noticeable.

Bf2 engine sucks. It needs to get the one our universe is running on.

I much rather see the shotgun Abrams shell in game.

I gotta admit, that would be pretty sick

Well here's an idea to the shrapnel, try not making multiple objects, instead an animation, with smoke and a small blast, for the missile as if it blew up or what ever blows up, put it out in your tests so that you can see if it'll work, perhaps experimenting the idea could perhaps come out favourably, my whole thing is, the US bombers have those big machine guns that must be bursting a lot bullets within a little time frame, try perhaps the same with shrapnel, if it still doesn't work at least you could say you effectively tried (animation and small objects, don’t need to see them, only the impacts, or perhaps don’t show the ones that would technically hit some one, but instead make a ground impact effect along with shrapnel going up then falling to imply the explosion bursting it out in random directions, if you get what I mean).

Heh, yeah, that'd be pretty sweet.

Eh, actually on the British AH64 Mk 1 Apache, the flechettes are carried on pretty much every sortie. Each rocket contains only 80, 5 inch, Tungsten Darts. Which can puncture light armour.
They actually aren't as rare as you think they are.

Due to engine limitations it'd end up with the exact same result as the existing hydra rockets.

I can just imagine what the human body will look like after a hit from one of those "shotgun shells"...
