Can we re"generize" some factions?

For example these factions have new names in 0.85.

Iraqi Insurgents
Taliban
Chechen Rebels.

This leads to some problems. it narrows down the possible map locations. For example I want to have the Taliban on my new map.




The setting is very european/russian. The Taliban would easily fit and having INS gamemode on a euroepean looking map should be fun. Now because they are "Taliban" everyone would say they dont fit. However if they are "Middle-Eastern Guerillas" one could easily use them in this map because we can say it is a post-soviet country in the middle-east (uzbekistan, Tajikistan, kasachstan).


I would like to suggest to rename them to:

Insurgents
Middle-Eastern Guerillas
Militia

Taliban can be anywhere. Renaming them is not necessary.

Renaming them on a map by map basis would be nice. I would like them for the map i'm currently making and have already had a number of people talk about how unrealistic it is to have Taliban in that country or even on a coastal map. Really all i want from the Taliban faction is the semi-organized insurgency, so a middle-eastern militia would be perfect.

People will start to call it unrealistic if what they see does not match with the word the associate. (see = what they watched in the news)

Check out the init.con located in a map's server zip.
Wouldn't this allow you to do just that?

so who exactly would they be then if they are in europe? and dont you think if your gonna rename anyone for a country like tajikistan it should be the chechens?

I am sure that there are regions in Kasakzstan that look european. And if you take a look at the map you may see that chechnya is very far away from afghanistan. The other problem is that I want Insurgent Gamemode on the map

Just put a good bit of info in the map loading desc and people should understand.

Learn your geography boy. Europe stops in the middle of turkey.

Not exactly. There is no geographical border for what is supposed "Europe". The only vague geographical border is the Ural mountains in Russia. Europe was always more defined by its cultural borders. While there is a lot of arguing whether Turkey is still Europe or middle-east (middle east is called "near-east" here in Germany) Western Russia is still considered Europe, and so is Georgia.

Eastern Europe is not that poor generally.

Western side of the Bosphorus(Istanbul) is europe,eastern side Asia.These are signs on two bridges connecting Asia and Europe.
One says "Wellcome to Asia"
Other "Wellcome to Europe"

Even the Istanbul is divided into two sections,Asian side,European side.

I dont see a reason why the taliban cant fit on the map your doing... its looking great btw, keep at it!

Dont worry about the factions too much we can sort this out further down the line, dont let that stop you from creating the environment your going for.

There are a number of reasons for changing the Taliban name, but in your case, just make up a scenario. Obviously the US isn't in a war with China and the MEC doesn't exist. It doesn't have to be realism to the last detail..... Does it?

Well Tajikistan is a mountainous country. Closest you could get to such a forested area could be either near Korengal (but your map is to European) or perhaps North-Eastern Kazakhstan. I doubt Taliban would go up there, but maybe some Turkic Extremists hiding out in Kazakhstan? Maybe we could have PLA invade Kazakhstan to eliminate the East Turkestan insurgents that are hiding there.
