-It's still being used, just log on to the PR Mumble server and there's usually loads of people on. I think fuzzhead is working on it but I seem to remember him saying it would take him about a month to work through all the code and stuff.

NickO wrote:If VOIP was disabled and mumble was the only means of communication with forced 100% rolloff it would be perfect. ^^
The best could be mumble and voip working together.

Exemple, if you press B you talk at mumble (with everyone arround you). And when you press V, you talk with your squad members BUT with mumble too. I mean, like in real life, when you talk in a radio, people can hear you too.

Agreed with G. Drew here. Mumble really has no serious future for PR. To be honest, you don't need to be able to talk to a smurf unless you're an SL. In which case you should use TS or the regular voip to relay information to commanders. If you really need something from a smurf, you can just use the commo rose or type it out. Mumble just creates too much unneeded audio (which completely screws my and others' concentration) and encourages a "blob" formation, which isn't tactically sound.

on a good night, igi has about 20-30 mumblers on and its awesome.

peoples lack of enthusiasm for mumble disappointed me, its probably one of the best things to hit PR in a LONG while. and with the mod looking for more and more realistic gameplay mechanics, mumble is the only real way of pursuing them effectively.

voip should still be the main communication for a squad. not mumble, mumble just fills the gaps in terms of SL'ers communication, player to vehicle communication and in close proximity, player to player.

Completely wrong in my opinion, if ur on OGT and ur squadmembers are down and there is a blue medic next to you, you damn well better say "medic, my guys are down, I'll cover you while you get them"

or an APC, iGi stoffen was the driver, ASF Scoth was the gunner, my squad was in the back.

We were waiting by the bridge at qwai for confirmation that an enemy tank had been destroyed by the TOW squad, Stoffen says to me over mumle. "rudd, jump out and provide rear security" we did, deployed around the bum of the vehicle. within 30 seconds, "Contact, enemy AT and infantry North down the alleyway!" desperate firefight ensues, no causualties on our side, WHY? BECAUSE THE 50 CAL GUNNER COULD HEAR US!

Pilot wants to take me somewhere, I can now tell him the precise route, where suspected AA is and get feedback on my wants.

Mumble is how PR will move from Squad level tactics to TEAM LEVEL TACTICS

agree with above quote...

it brings seemless larger scale tactics to PR without a huge amount of overhead and planning, and bringing people together from different squads, that can quickly form sound tactics who may not have played together before...

dont know why anyone would say "I use TS for serious gameplay". Mumble is exactly like TS, only it has more features, faster response time and higher quality, and its open source development.

If you follow the install guide correctly, you get both the functionality of localized voip along with the functionality of radio voip or "ts" voip via force center position.

Yes it needs work but I've been using it for past month now and find its working great... if you dont want use it so be it, but I dont see a reason to use TS or vent over mumble, other than familiarity.

Agreed with the quote as well. Altough on T&T the use of mumble has decreased since mumble was introduced I still use it together with a few regulars and the odd T&T'er. Its a shame though.

Even for squad members it comes in handy as there rarely is a battle where you are just alone out there with your squad. You always interact with blue guys.

Agreed with Rudd here in that it will be the future of team level tactics in PR. What Drew and a couple others have said is that at the moment it is primarily used for shits and giggles by clan members etc.

I'll point you here in the direction of the numerous threads relating to fun but without serious gameplay that have been popping up as a result of mumble...

Even the [Top 100] Mumble experiences thread features more anecdotes about (admittedly very funny) happenings on mumble than actual examples of supreme gameplay resulting from the use of mumble.

Therefore with some more work I think that yes it will be the future of team level tactics in PR, however as it stands I struggle to see many examples of great teamwork as a direct result of mumble.

If we could get a button for talking into a radio so your entire squad could hear it, and that would still be broadcasted on mumble, because even when talking into a radio, you're still making sounds.
And a button for just mumble.
And one for radio to all squadleaders and commander, which does the same as above, that would be the perfect solution in my opinion.

Of course I think when you use the radio you should lower your weapon because you have to use one hand to push the button, this would encourage more use of the mumble only feature at most times instead of the radio, because when you use that you're defenseless for a little while.
Also I would like the com channel sounds to be added to the regular radio aswell, cause they're awesome.

Question: Do soldiers all have coms?
