The sniper problem.

Had this idea when I read the post for "Only sl's can get snipers".

The post suggested that only a squad leader would be able to request and be allocated the sniper kit.

Now, what if the game was modified so that only squad leaders can request the more restricted kits, AT, AA, Sniper, on behalf of the squad members.

Currently:

Squad spawns in, SM1 says, "Can I go sniper".
SL: "No"
SM1 Requests and takes sniper kit.

With this system:

Squad spawns in, SM1 says, "Can I go sniper".
SL: "No"
SM1 Requests sniper kit, receives the message, "You must jave the officer kiet you request the SNIPER KIT"
SM1 is forced to stay as medic and acctually contribute to the squad.

Now for this to work squad leaders would need the officer kit to request the kits, however they would not be able to take the requested kit for themselves.

This idea had the potential for experianced squad leaders to communicate with each other, for example:

SL2: "SL1, do you need the HAT kit?"
SL1: "Negative, no armor in our sector"
SL2 then requests HAT kit for his squad member.

This was a spur of the moment post, so I didnt really think it through very well, (i.e. I made it up as i went along), so discuss and let me know if you think there is anything practical in this idea at all.

What if the Sl is busy and doesn't have time to request kits for everyone? What about people who join the squad in the middle of a game? I don't think changing the game based on a noob doing something noobish is a good idea.

If the person is not listing to the SL they should just be removed from the squad, and even if this was implemented it would not change whether they are listening to there squad leader or not.

on another note they would have to make it so SL's can request multiple kits one after another which would make exploiting the kit system allot easier, unless of course your squad was only alowd to request 1 or 2 kits at a time.

Is it possible for the "player" that wants the sniper kit to request it from the supply box/vehicle and a message pop up on the SL's screen? asking if he wants to allow it?

Well this idea was generated under the principal that the game is played as it is designed, which is with squad members with the squad leader at all times.

I see this in my mind as similar to making requestable kits only available from creates.
Eg, a squad REALLY needs the HAT, but all the choppers dropped all the creates in the same location, far away.

You say the idea was generated under the principle the game is played properly but your suggestion is came from the fact that some people don't play the game properly. So it is pretty contradicting, just like the sniper/SL&commander only suggestion which would have only led to more lone wolfing when it was suggested to prevent it.

Honestly if the person is not capable of selecting his own kit properly he should be playing in the training server and the SL would properly deal with it. and like I said before just because they require the SL to get them a kit doesn't mean they will still listen to him.

and this is a ressugestion from not to long ago... HE sead almost the same thing as you.. but mabey i missed you quoting him somewhere?
whats to stop a sl from finging a officer kit and spamming kit requests, also, there have been countless times where i have had 2 ppl in my sqad total, and we grab a tank, or 4 ppl and we grab 2 tanks... how would the officer kit force work then?

^Meh, if the SL doesn't have the officer kit then really, who needs a sniper kit? A tank/aicraft squad will hardly want or need a sniper kit (CAS spotting is another matter, but I suspect in this case the SL would spawn with an officer kit, then request a pilot kit)

I wouldn't worry about the resuggestion issue -for heaven's sakes its not fastropes...I agree with this suggestion:
1. No randoms grabbing the sniper kit, the SL has to allocate it (effectively) and he has to have a squad (3+ SMs for an officer kit, remember?)
2. It is only really nessessary for snipers (as that is the only kit left with the 1337 lonewolf aura...thankfully) and it won't interfere with the sensible kits like LAT or AR.'

I'd like to see this extended for pilots too, actually. The number of times I've said "We're going infantr...I DON'T NEED A BLOODY TRANS HELI! PUT IT DOWN! PUT IT DOWN!" *shoots dissident squadmember*

& c.

Isn't this like this suggestion or have I misunderstood?

^Yeah, although this one seems to be specifically dealing with the "I've got a sniper kit so I'm a 1337 lonewolf" type issue. While that thread does deal with the SL requesting kits, it more concerns requesting all kits (which has a cornicopia of associated problems) rather than just the sniper kit, which when this is an absolute max of 2 at any one time, is rather hard to abuse.

good idea but nicks got a point, what if the sl is too busy? what if the squad members can request kits but they cant get them until sl aproves them in a weird way =P maby the page up, page down thingy?

I like this idea. Maybe not exactly but the idea of giving the SL the power of giving kits. If there was a way of the SL being able to enable kits to be taken for his sqd from anywhere he was, I think that would work.

However, people who have been a SM of my sqd know I dont take any **** from anyone and will quite happily kick anyone who does not obey orders or contribute to the sqd. Wish all SL'ers did the same.
