Grass blocking scope

When prone IRL you position yourself to the rifle is not in the grass, thus your sights are clear. when prone in PR and looking down the sights many times you cant see due to grass in the way. im not talking about bushes and trees, or grass far away, but the stuff right in front of you when your prone. probably an easy fix. and a needed one.

I am pretty sure what you are trying to say is that you cannot push the grass aside with your rifle? I highly doubt the bf2 engine would be able to do such a thing and I think even if it could it would be hardcoded, I agree it would be nice.
The trick to finding a good snipe spot is find an area were the grass has a gap and look out of it, try not a sit on a ledge with no backing behind you or you will just make a silhouette.

I'm sure the BF2 engine could handle transparency in such a situation. In real life, the grass directly in front of your scope/eyes would be transparent unless you were looking directly at it. It should be in the game too.

So scope = see through grass?
Just the area around you i hope, or else you'd crouch, scope in, and be able to see through fields ^.^

You can do that anyway. At distance a lot of the foliage doesn't render, making someone hiding in long grass stick out like a sore thumb, and the level of foliage rendered is down to the detail settings you run the game at, lower quality settings; less foliage; less places for people to hide. Same with turning down the lighting options so that shadows don't render and people have less places to hide.

ehhh, if I went out into a field outside with some medium length grass in it and lied down and tried to look though a pare of binoculars I would just see grass in front of me....
Grass is quite realistic
If you dont want grass to be in the way you need to go into the crouched or standing position or you simply dont go into the grass and you go around it...

The low settings options should be disabled so everyone sees the same thing, in that case. I'm sure there isn't a single person around who can't play PR because of bad performance and if there is, then they should've already upgraded a long time ago. BF2 engine FFS!

@ Incognito
That's partially why people are migrating from PC to console because of symmetrical gameplay. Same graphics, same hardware.. etc. So people don't create turbo-1337 mice so they don't have to use a keyboard =P
Also, I Lol'd at Rhino's Realistic Grass. FTW!
Back on topic here..
It's already in game.. just go to the edge of the grass. The BF2 engine isn't good enough to do that though, Although it's an excellent suggestion.

You're right, to an extent. If we were laying in well trimmed lawns I would have to give this one to you, except if you look at the grass in relation to the player you're laying down in a field with about two foot high grass. The only situation where I see this would make sense is if you were at the very top of a hill and looking at the right angle or at the very edge of a trail where you could poke all the offending blades out of your line of sight. Either way, this issue can be fixed by simply crouching, as had been done since PR .01 and vBF2.
In the immortal words of Radioactive Man; The goggles do nothing.

It's equally (il)logical to insist that low settings be enforced on all players to make sure everybody gets a decent frame rate. It seems a lot of your suggestions are all about taking control from the player's hands and giving it to the game itself. Why is that?

He's not talking about the tall grass though (Right?). So it would be realistic. And I think it can be done. Just make the grass transparent through the scope.

Missing the point.
He's saying that when you lay prone in grass the grass itself blocks the scope. He's not saying make it invisible, he just wants it to move to the side, like one would push grass away from the scope so it doesn't block it. I'm sure that wouldn't be possible to implement though.

Ya I think you are right, but I think it would be possible to make it so the grass directly infront of the scope fades away to actually simulate the moving the grass your self, but i really think its fine the way it is.

Then do you just as you said "position yourself" so the grass isnt in the way. Making the grass invisible or missing is a bad idea and far from replicating realism.

To top off the suggestion, its not an
easy fix not that it needs to be fixed. Unless you know something we dont like ARMA's flatting of grass please dont assume something is easy to fix. And that goes with everyone that post that.

Everything is an easy fix because they won't have to fix it you guys will

but really it would be a nice thing if bf2 could match the arma grass flatting thing but we can dream right?

Im not talking about bushes, or tall grass in farm fields or whatever. im talking about those small tufts of grass on the ground that get in the way, preventing a good shot. i think that in the immediate area that small static grass needs to be transparent when looking down any sight. and ive been prone in grass before and i know for a fact you either lift up on your elbows or the rifle itself is tall enough to keep free of the grass. as for tall grass, like a foot tall, well thats a different story.

Maybe if they could invert the rendering distance for undergrowth..so you dont see grass until 2 meter radius around...max rendering distance the same.

I have my settings quite low, and I still have a horrible framerate on some maps (fools road anyone?)
Forcing high settings onto me would mean I wouldnt be able to play the game, along with quite a few other ppl im sure.
I see a lot of these kinda posts: "Lol everyone who cant run bf2 max settings fail at life and shouldnt be allowed to play", and the ignorance of these ppl hurts my brain. Try and realize that not everyone have either a highly paid job or parents with money flowing out their A**.
I would absolutely love to upgrade my system, but I go to college and I struggle to just pay for rent and food, meaning that getting even a half decent system is impossible for me right now.
However if you plan on buying new systems for me and all the other ppl having low end systems, I think your idea is splendid.
