Any way to increase LOD range?

Was wondering if there is anyway to increase the LOD range on the player models.

Disabling the LOD on players would remove there outside skin and they would all look like they do from a distance away if I am not wrong.

I think what you mean is increase the LOD so the kit skin will be visible from farther away, I don't know if this is possible and I am sure its been discussed before. It might be because of hardcoding issues or because it would make the game harder on lower end systems.

There is a way of increasing the LOD on maps. But i don't know if that affects the player models as well.

well why comment then? ;)

Think you can with 3rd party graphics tweakers, but thats just an overall increase, to do it to models would then move into PB territory iirc...

Level of Detail

Basically from far away the model looks like ****, the closer it gets the better quality the model gets. Its put into place to not lag systems with tons of polys.

R0PET0WN are you asking about in game, like on the fly? If so no your cannot. If asking if you can change it, yes but will need to be done for everyone.

thats too bad about the hardcodedness or pb issues or whatever. i remember you could turn off the LOD completely with operation flashpoint and all the models would look awesome even from far away instead of looking like flying boxes.

Hmm I wonder would this issue apply to whole new player models made for scrach like the australian forces ones maby this would be a way to fix it but it would take alot of hours

Yeah, they should turn LOD off entirely.
This game isn't exactly demanding.

If they turned off the lod it would be very demanding and would lag allot.

everyone using a computer from 2007 will need to upgrade and PR would have a forum full of threads like.

"OMFG I LAG to much I only have 1gig of ramz ): lol

^1 gig of ram is going to casue you to crash -end of story. I had 1GB of ram once, and no matter how much I tweaked settings and such, it still crashed. So now I have 3GB.

If the LOD can be increased to the maps' max view distance just for player models and the like, that's good. You wouldn't get ridiculous lag (inefficient BF2 engine) but target ID would be easier and proper.

Which is good, of course -next, those blasted hills!

there is no way client side no, ie, for users to set where they want each lod.

but it is possible to be done in the mod to bump up the LOD distances for anything but it would have a impact on performance, depending on how much you turn them up of course and the ones who would suffer the most from this is the ppl running on low gfx who can hardly run the game as it is.

Those running on low gfx should really upgrade. Honestly, I've a PC from late '05 (Excluding the 8500 series 1GB graphics card, but even the old 6600 didn't mind) and PR runs fine on medium/high settings for me. Honestly, if you are running PR on low graphics because it chugs, you must have a keyboard made of stone or something...

Perhaps we should stop waiting for the steam powered people to catch up?

Time for them to buy a new computer then :) no sympathy. It's time for them to move forward and get a better GFx

Yes of course, try buying new computer stuff when you can hardly pay the internet, the app and food. Seriously.
