It's about respect

I know there's been a bajillion threads on the recent irritation that is the noobs, newbies, nubs and noobies

And this is another one. But from a different perspective - the noobs' perspective. You see, when I started PR waaaay back in Sept '08 (I know, I know, but it seeeems like ages to me - I play on average, I'd say 2hrs a night - every night since release of 0809 :mrgreen :) , I didn't have a fucking clue how to play PR but I understood the fact that it was NOT BF2 and that that was the whole point of the game. This is why I download it.

So I've been thinking to myself - just why am I so annoyed with these new players? I am quite a tolerant person in my daily life. And I think I have figured it out. So why post? Who gives a fuck about what I think, right? I am an irritating wanker after all 8-) .

Well, I am hoping that the new players will read this and maybe understand why so many 'experienced' PR players get so goddam pissed off at the obviously new players wrecking all assets, TKing, TAing, using up rare kits, killing whole squads as helo pilots etc.. And, hopefully, they will adjust their gameplay accordingly...

You see, the issue I have with the majority (not all) of the recent spate of noobs (since the EA ad and the subsequent MOTY win(s) (and an absolutely deserved win at that!)), is their lack of respect for experienced players. When I started PR I respected the people that had taken the time to learn the game already and were actively playing the game as intended. These were mature (not necessarily old), intelligent strategic players.

I would ask questions and they would answer me, courteously and non patronizingly. I would heed their words and learn to play the game. And I learned to love the depth of the game. And I became hooked.

Unfortunately, the game has now been over run (and I mean over run) with disrespectful, immature, arrogant and downright game wrecking nooooobs!

That all said, I was extremely heartened to be playing the other night (no PB kick for 4hrs!) and there was a new guy on my squad. This guy was how I wish all new players were. He asked questions about everything in the game. He asked the squad and me to show him how to do certain things. He incessantly asked questions. Intelligent questions, about the dynamics of the game, about "why the fuck can't I hit anyone??". Everyone in the squad was so cool to him and explained just about every facet of the game in about a 2 or 3 hour round.

This new guy is now hooked for life! And I would gladly have him on my squad any time. In fact, I would kick someone (e.g. a no-VOIPer, not doing as requested by SL, etc.) to have this 'noob' on my squad.

So, new guys (and girls?), please, please show a little respect and learn from your experienced team mates. If you don't want to learn the depth of the mechanics and dynamics of this game then I suggest that you keep on moving right along and play something else in your allotted gaming time.

PR is becoming a very popular game and will prosper into one of the most intellectual and dynamic FPSs out there. There is nothing that has a patch on this game (hahahahah pun hahahah :shock :) - and no, not even ARMA2 (IMHO, from vids I've seen - I've played ARMA tho :26_suicid ).

And, when PR migrates to a new engine, this team of (admittedly incredibly fucking elitist :mrgreen :) R-Peepl will be recognized as pioneers in the gaming development world. And this includes the whole team (that I have encountered from posting here - the forum moderation, the way responses are delivered to questions etc). I was telling a colleague of mine how this game is fantastic for teaching 'people skills'. Seriously - if you think you're a leader, be it of a team in the corporate world, on a sports team, in a band etc., be a squad leader in this game. It will help teach you how to manage a diverse bunch of 5 other people who may not really be interested in; what you have to say; what your plan is; why you want to even implement the plan; who the fuck you are and why are you telling them what the fuck to do!

Thanks for listening! It's Friday and I'm very 'relaxed' and ready to play :24_smoker

That's all I have to say.

But might I say, again tonight I was looking for the lack of cohesive squads and I failed to locate it.
3 differernt servers and about 6 different squads and I had comms and cooperation present in all of them.
2 admitted new players did very well on Insurgent maps( confusing to any1 ) and overall I had a great 6 hours of gaming.
Whatever engine this game goes to the base will follow.

oorah on that and if you show respect to veterans then you will get it, this also extends to training with an asset before you play for real.
And kinda hard when the noobs are being complete fools on a training server, and not practice on a real game. Oh one more thing, if they like the training mode better, then they should stay there because they won't really be accepted/ wanted in a real game.

Youll get used to it. You yourself havent experienced a new release as a PR player so it may seem like its a new trend and that the jackasses came out of nowhere but trust me its not new. Just keep playing and eventually it will get better. But because of the added advertising it may take longer than normal.

In my opinion the average player base during the release was MUCH worse in 0.8 than 0.85. It was all the content.

I also dont like the fact that people hold themselves up because they have played PR for a couple of months. Ive playing PR since 0.3something patch and Im still a pretty big noob. The guys who do deserve the praise are those who try their best to squad lead and command. Give them the respect.

it is the uber steep learning curve that makes people act that way after 2 months
after 2 years you start to understand how little you really know about how to play

Wall of Text Critical head shots you for 100% of your life points.

Try to not type huge post like that you can sum it up in 2 - 3 lines for respect and 2 - 3 lines for PR migrating to a new engine.

anyways I read the full thing and I think the "Experienced PR players" are the ones that need to Respect the new players usually, they just tell them "Read the Manual" and kick them from there squad.

Remember New players to day Experienced pro's tomorrow.

The only problem is that most noobs don't take the time to register or even read the forums.

I wish they did.

You my friend sum up what a PR player would like to see when a new person joins your squad, someone who is willing to learn how to play PR yet hasn't yet, and COMMUNICATES off the bat asking questions about things :D

I agree 100% with spybaz, it's all about the respect and the attitude the new players decide to show the game and the other players.
If I would own a server I'd be giving banns for attitude-problems immediatly, no warnings.

I remember when I started playing PR, I pretty much worshipped PR, and still do (sometimes I sacrifice small animals for PR to keep the DEVs happy). Back then I even had fun when I was waiting to spawn. :D

... And I actually read most of the manual back then. ;)

P.S. Good text spybaz, I could never write that much English and that good.

All the best,
Viki

Re: "Wall of text" - the internets has thoughtfully included a back button on your browser. If an individual doesn't like to read much, they can click this little button and the text magically goes away (some mouses even have a handy dandy buttons that allow you to go back in time too).

Totally agreed.

If you plan to be a jerk in a somewhat-close-knit group, good luck getting in. Otherwise, if you ask around and don't do stupid things, then you should be all right.
