Friend or Foe

I have been playing this mod for a couple of weeks now and think it is great fun, the teamwork is great.
Now,
The question that we all need to ask before we squeeze the trigger is friend or foe. For long range and if I had time I would deploy the Binoculars and give the subject a looking over. It seems that sometimes when I look at the subject I sometimes do not get a friendly tag even though it is a frendly. Takes a short time to ID or not at all. How long does it take to ID if we wait? This seems to be prevailent on Armour. Wondered if anyone is getting this.
In the heat of battle of course its difficult to accertain a friend or foe especially if you have support squads in the area so VOIP is handy to keep chattin for location + the map helps for a quick check. Sometimes if foe is really close and we meet up we stand for a moment then with a mad flurry after noticing no frendly tag choose the wrong weapon (the shovel usually) while he fumbles to reload results in a quick run away or worse embarrasment.
I guess the usual situation is that foe will be coming towads you and friendly will be moving away from you so thats another give away unless some sneaky devil has flanked and approaches with the knife.
Your thoughts on tactics for frend or foe ID would be handy,
Ta,

Welcome to the forums.
Stay close to your squad the best you can and always check your map.

I generally squad lead these days, and I think its generally the SLs responsibility to prevent friendly fire.
Keep up a running commentary of friendlies near you
Check your map

Welcome to the forums as well. i'm new on the forums.. not new in game.. as for friend/foe.. LOOK and the uniform.. and hand placement.. all factions have a minor hand placement on there weapons.. but uniforms are a dead give away.. the hardest you will see is between woodland marines.. and PLA.. they look the same.. but observe the faces.. use the randar.. and use the arrow on you're map to help you tell the difference.. you really shouldnt have an issue after that.

First, I think about what I know from recent observations of the map (where squads are, where vehicles are, etc.) to determine if it makes sense for a freindly in the area. Then I thoroughly look at the target (through optics if available, binocs if at a long range), first noticing the weapon, then uniform, and if I still can't conclude whether or not the target is friendly, I keep my sights on them for at least two seconds to see if a blue name appears. During this time I am still studying the targets visible features. If no name appears and I am pretty sure that it is an enemy, I fire (if weapons are green or if they have spotted me).

QFT (to a extent)
as a squad leader , i spend 80%(guesstimation) of my in game time looking at the map for various reasons. while i'm at it i might as well say:
"friendly squad approaching from SE"
ect

reminds me of a situation I have few rounds ago... It was OP ghost train, I was chinese and had a british kit which I picked up before. I was running towards an enemy which I didn see, cuzz he was lying in the grass. Suddenly when I saw him I noticed that my weapon was not realoded, so I started reloading and croched into to the grass, I thought it was my end but the british guy thought I was friendly beacuse I didn't shoot and also had his weapon and helmet, so he just turned around and went away. I loled so hard after I backstabbed him
well, long story short idea:
ALWAYS look at the uniform of the soldier, not the equipement he is carrieing with
AND
If he doesn't shoot at you doesn't mean he is friendly

Thanks for the feedback,
Confirm then commit is the order of the day.
I see now that uniform and posture of the foe can be crucial in the heat of the battle for close up identification so will use that more. Always make sure you have reloaded and are holding the correct weapon before entering a hotspot....It's difficult to take the enemy out with a shovel,

Thanks.

I don't see why it should be made any easier than it already is. If you consider real combat situation the grunt usually has no idea what is going on, like Rudd said the SL is the one giving all the intel to them. All that the grunt has to do in general is to hold fire, stay down and shut up, until the order to fire is given or until fired upon. If SL doesn't do that, there is always the soldier geometry that gives you a good idea of friend or foe.
So big NO, for any "noob tools". We shouldn't need them.

Afaik, you've been the first person to bring up anything of the sort in this thread. Techniques for target verification is all that I've seen discussed.
On topic: I check the uniform, if I'm unsure after that, I check the gun. If after that I'm still unsure, I check the map. If all that fails, I hold fire and call out that I have no idea if my target is friend or foe, and hopefully a squad member has a better view/angle.

like others have said...check the uniform, but be careful coz of the whole,"i'm gonna pick up an American kit and i'll get his helmert and belt" situation. also if you're sniping and want to know, if you or your spotter is SL, put a marker on the person the look on your map, that is a good way to find out whether he's friend or foe.
