AA can't fire unless locked.

Something thats been pissing me off lately is the people that fire aa missiles before the lock so even if i deploy flares i screwed. because when i was practicing flying in a training server once i did and attack run kept popping flares through the whole run and a missile still got me. and in helos it's not any better.
Note the very second i hear the aa tone i pop flares. unless in a jet then i pop flares when entering an attack run.

also in real life i doubt aa crews would risk wasting a missile on a target it's not locked onto yet.

Its locked, you just can not hear the lock tone since we made it so that the pilot of the aircraft gets a slight delay on the lock tone.

The flares are also can not 100% stop the missiles from hitting you, they are only there to try and divert the missile away from you. The way you deploy your flares and fly will determine how effective your flares are at stopping the AA and the missile locking onto you etc.

In r/l, if you flew anywhere near a AA site you will most likely get shot down, that is what they are there for, if they where ineffective they would not get made :p

So my best point to you is, stay away from the AA sites.

Actually I remember watching a video in which a F16 got shot down. The AA guy didn´t use his radar until the last moment so the F16 couldn´t engage him, fired the missile with no lock, then locked on a few seconds before impact.

But yeah, I think most people don´t realise just how easy aa is in this sense. Lock or not just fire a missile. Nuclear radius and proximity does the rest.

This is true, but it is the other way round also. ;)

well kidda hard when the other team wins sometimes.
Also the flares for helo in video of cobras doing attack runs i've seen 2 flares get fired at a time one coming out the left and right side. or you guys going to do this for some of the helos. because 4-5 flare deploys for a attack choppers isn't enough.

I think he means you can control how many flares come out via dropping a flare each click much like we have the jets.

Thats how the Serbs used to do it back in '99. Constantly moved thier sites around, used spotters and landline phones to relay the postition, speed, path, etc of NATO aircraft as well as very limited radar scans on unusual wavelengths then fired thier SA-3s in SACLOS mode.

Clever buggers, them Serbs. Downed an F-16 and an F-117 as well as a whole bunch of UAVs
