How do transports communicate?

As the tittle suggests, how do the transports and squads communicate? Specifically, how do they know where the squad wants to be dropped off? Do they just say in chat using the map coords (ex: C3kpd4)? Or are they able to see our move markers?
Also, on a side note. How common is this mumble thing I've been hearing about, because it sounds extremely awesome from the descriptions I've heard. What's the chance I will find a random blue mumbling at me, or does it not work that way?

mumble is fairly common (when .:iGi:. server is full , we have around 20 people on mumble) but not common enough, as it should be used by everyone.

Just use mumble. I usually see a lot of people use it on iGi and TCombat, cept I don't know what ever happened to TCombat. ASA also uses it a lot, but you could get some high ping there.

It always annoys me the aussies are too far away to play with, they usually have alot of mumblers.

If you want to get a ride from anyone be sure to know the keypad on the map where you want to go and tell them as soon as you get in, there is nothing more annoying as being a chopper pilot and having someone jump into your chopper and be completely silent and expect you to go some where than they get out and run off like your the noob

?

Good vid that. Especially the advice to sprint and go prone on exiting the heli, that shows just how quickly it can get away.
In terms of the thread, of course inter-squad communication is necessary. A good pilot should be able to do well just with a written instruction but voice comms are better.

Yeah it's a pity we don't get to see more of you guys down here~ I'm totally loving mumble especially for SL to SL comms (global in a SL channel) and transport. I run logistics quite often and it's great to not have to stop to type out if the squad needs supplies or not, rather just use the button and carry on my way.
As a transport pilot, I don't take off until I get an order from a SL where he wants to go. Some random jumps in and says E4k3 can wait until high priority insertions are complete.
Also, don't be offended/surprised if a pilot denies your LZ request because they know it's going to get everyone killed. I've had people ask to be dropped
on a cache... lol?

As the pilot I will give them the alternate LZ that I have picked that is closest to their request (like C4-2 rather than C5-6)

It's 'cause we only have one server down here! (and we promote it pretty heavily on that one server's forums)

thats exactly what mumble helps to do, I love talking to my pilots

The chopper is the pilot's responsibility, so he is within his rights to refuse a destination.
"pilot take us to bravo 4 kp 3"
"negative on that, enemy FB/AA/God of war is too near to that position, I can drop you 500m to the south?"
"Copy that, ready to go"
Rather than sitting on the pad trying to type out long messages with people spamming "GO GO GO" in the pilots ears.
