Do you think if I purchase another 1GB of ram I will notice any improvements? I currently have 2GB, but have to switch off shadows and dynamic lighting. I also have turned down the textures to medium. Specs of my computer are below. Thanks!!
Cpu: Amd 64x2 3.21Ghz
Graphics card: Geforce 260GTX
Mainboard: Asus Crosshair.
Ram: 2GB
windows: Vista 32bit

I don't think it has to do with your RAM. 1GB of extra RAM will only make you load in maps quicker. I've got a strong suspicion that you're CPU is bottlenecking your graphics card. I'm not saying an extra GB won't help, it will, especially with RAM hungry Vista, but don't expect much/ anything changes in graphical settings.

The reason you have had to turn your shaders and lighting down is more to do with the graphics card/processor than the RAM.
Not saying that your pc as a whole won't run better with an extra gig but don't bother going up to 4 GB cos windows 32 can only handle 3GB RAM. Remember that Vista uses almost a gig of RAM just idling so you are always gonna be better of with more RAM on Vista.

You're running a pimped out unoptimised [engine-wise] version of a game that came out in 2005. It's nearly 4 years old.
You have the graphics hardware to kick out frames no trouble - but RAM is letting you down. You can't run PR 0.85 at highest on Vista with 2GB of RAM. 4GB is certainly enough. 3GB is probably fine too - PR uses just over 2GB RAM.
Get the RAM.
Everything I've said is true to my experience, except replace Vista with Server 2008.
I ordered my 2nd GB of RAM the day after 0.85 came out simply because 2GB wasn't enough.

Thanks for all the replies; I am going to try the Ram thing first because it's the cheapest solution if it works. Also, let me use this opportunity to ask one other question, is it possible to just update Vista 32bit to vista 64bit without the need for a clean reinstall. Thanks again!!
