PRMM 0.3 Update - May 8th

Just thought I'd make sure Gaz's update post did not get lost in the other thread.

Gaz is one of two testing managers with PR, he manages the European testing efforts.

He's bang on in that we are really only concerned with one last bug. We're the first BF2 mod to release with multiple game modes (PRMM 0.3 has 3 different game modes that can be used in map rotation). We've encountered a couple of snags along the way.. we think we have it sorted out, but need to make sure.

The reason we can't be specific about a launch date is that we might have it solved, or it might be trickier than we thought. If it gets really tricky... we might implement a work around and release with that work around. However it's not ideal so we're going to work on it a bit more (as well as make sure nothing else has come up).
'[R-DEV wrote:Gaz']Exactly! :D

OK, here's a sitrep for you. The testers received the 0.305 RC last night. We just have to run through any bugs that were in previous test builds and ensure they haven't popped up. Once they have been checked, the proposed public release will be made with any very minor changes that need made, and will include the final README file. It'll be tested for a VERY short period of time, then it's good to go.

That's the process we will be following. I have NOT detailed any time periods simply because things can crop up, and this isn't our main jobs, so the builds etc have to be made by hand in other Devs' spare time. You can rest assured though, that it'll be worked at asap, as we are running at full steam going through the final processes!

If a showstopper bug rears it's ugly head, then things MAY be delayed. It will just depend on the workload involved in getting it fixed.

I am in no doubt that you guys want to get your mitts on 0.3, but please bare with us as we are doing our level best to ensure you guys have the best product we can give you. Your patience is appreciated!! Unfortunatley the exact timescale of the public release has not been set in concrete, so I cannot give you any dates. But I think it was eggman who mentioned 2-5 days, with 5 days being the MAX. I would think that this is accurate.

I SUGGEST YOU WATCH THE HOMEPAGE OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS... ;)

Thanks ladies and gents.

So it's not far off :)

THANKS for your patience!

yikes that is a large update. I assume the reason for this is because you included 'The Best Boy Bands Ever' album on the soundtrack

What better to cruise around in the SUV while listening to Backstreet Boys?

Perhaps not.

Yes, 750mb is large. Especially for us testers, who have to download 5+ versions of it. My ISP is going to go crazy! :D

750 mb? Maybe you should start thinking of aternative ways of distributing PRMM and ultimately PR?
One way could be an online store where we could buy either a CD or a DVD.
I admit that that is really only practicle if you have access to a bulk CD or DVD press but it's an idea worth thinking about.
I'd buy the DVD in a heartbeat!

NO i dont want to have to buy this GREAT mod.. YOU NUTS

It shouldn't take too long to download, around 45 mins here in UK, so you Americans must be quicker.
Anyway, I don't see what the deal is, if this mod is so great then you can afford to wait for the d/l to finish.

No, you don't get the point. It would not be that you would HAVE to buy it. It would be for those who will have problems downloading this mod. If this minimod weighs in at 750 mb, how big do you think the full mod might become?
Also, you could buy it just to show your support but ofcourse it should still be available to download for free.

WallEYE, you say PR is a great mod but don't want to contribute a small fee and get a beautiful DVD?

This whole point is moot as I don't think they are allowed to sell CDs and DVDs with EA/DICE content on it even if it is only for a token fee.

Remember Forgotten Hope - over 1 GB. 750 is peanuts!

I don't care if i can DL it in 45 minutes. If I could buy a CD or DVD that had been pressed and packaged like a real game I'd buy it just to have it.
I'm oldfashioned that way I suppose, but I really love to hold the disc in my hand knowing it has been proffesionally made as opposed to me just downloading it and burning it myself.

It's been done before, CS, I believe did this in their early stages. Could be wrong about them though. There was this mod for Unreal Tournament, Infiltration, they did it with their last official release.
I'm sure there are others as well.

Anyway, as I said in my previous post, this point is moot due to legal problems.
Even if they could get permission to sell PR for a token fee, there is the whole problem of finding someone who can actually press the CDs or DVDs for a selfcost price... Etc etc.

But I like the idea! :p
Enough about this for now though. Let's just wait for the release! :D

750 mb is 3/4 of a GB. Smaller, yes. Peanuts, I don't think so. :p

Well... Ill be happy to download it... install it... then delete the installer. *shrugs* I just hope they have a BitTorrent download available.

we might break it into the installer and the map packs FOR FUTURE RELEASES BUT NOT 0.3, and we'll look for ways to minimise the size .. but no matter what we're delivering a lot of content, so it's gonna be big.

The server download is 75mb lol, so it's mostly client side content.

Yeah, I'll be getting it from BitTorrent. If we have enough people doing that we'll be downloading it faster than than the other guys, plus BitTorrent is safe from any disconnects. :P

Yep, a torrent download will of course be available and will be your best bet for a FAST download ;)

Doesn't BitTorrent have a problem with getting files mixed up on d/l though as it d/l different bits at a time so can have trouble putting them together. Just what I heard.

Dark Ewok you need to chill out, I was making a comment.
